Dale Blaylock Skinner, 80, of Williamsburg, passed away Saturday in his home after an extended illness. He was born in in Ogden, Utah to Roy and Gladys Skinner.
Shortly after graduation from high school, he was drafted into the Army and serving in Germany, when he met his future wife, Reinhilde Suhs. He served a tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam where he earned numerous awards including the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. He retired after 20 years of service and began a career in construction, eventually starting his own business along with his wife. He was known in the community for his integrity and quality workmanship. He worked six days a week along with his wife until their retirement 17 years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Keith Skinner. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Reinhilde, and five daughters: Annette Dunlap and husband William, Andrea Cordle, Rebecca Skinner, Yvonne Klich and husband John, and Bonnie Ruscoe. He leaves behind his five grandchildren Cameron and Morgan Cordle; Collin, Brianna, and Clayton Klich; and Tyler Ruscoe. He also survived by his sister, Lynne Maynard and husband Tommy.
Funeral arrangements are by Nelsen Funeral Home of Williamsburg. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 12 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place at Peninsula Memorial Park on Friday, September 13 at 1:30 PM. A celebration of his life will take place in Toano at the family residence following the funeral. Friends are invited to join the family in remembering Dale's life.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg VA.
