Obituary

Dale E. Updegraff, 81, Kokomo, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013, at North Woods Village. He was born June 7, 1932, in New Hope, Ohio, the son of the late William and Katherine (Faucett) Updegraff. He graduated from Richmond High School, attended Ball State University and got his accounting degree from La Salle University. He served his country in the National Guard. On Aug. 25, 1951, he married Doris I. (Ford) Updegraff, and she survives. Music was Dale's hobby and from high school on, he always had a band. The band performed at civic events, proms, receptions, and parades. In later years, his son and daughter joined the group....
Dale E. Updegraff, 81, Kokomo, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013, at North Woods Village. He was born June 7, 1932, in New Hope, Ohio, the son of the late William and Katherine (Faucett) Updegraff.

He graduated from Richmond High School, attended Ball State University and got his accounting degree from La Salle University. He served his country in the National Guard.

On Aug. 25, 1951, he married Doris I. (Ford) Updegraff, and she survives.

Music was Dale's hobby and from high school on, he always had a band. The band performed at civic events, proms, receptions, and parades. In later years, his son and daughter joined the group. Dale was a member of Morning Star Church and a former member of Toastmaster International, Elks Club, Haworth Band Boosters president, and American Federation of Musicians. Dale retired from General Motors as budget director in the finance department.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Doris Updegraff; son, Daniel (Connie) Updegraff; daughters, Joyce (Mark) Ogden and June Dice; sisters, Elnora Ford and Lois Thomas; grandchildren, Brian Updegraff, Heidi Updegraff, James Dice III, Sarah Dice, Kelsey Rowe; and stepgrandchildren, Matt Ogden and Michael Ogden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, with Pastor Greg Reed officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be given to Morning Star Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
