Damon Deal, 85, of Peoria, passed away at 7:45 pm on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at his residence.
He was born September 13, 1926 in Gratio, Tennessee to Cecil and Hallie Lou (Polk) Deal. He married Janet Hendricks on November 4, 1975 in Metropolis, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Billy Clay, two sisters, Geneva and Joyce and one granddaughter, Jennifer.
Surviving is his wife, Janet, two sons, Jerry Mac (Lana) Deal of Union City, TN and Damon Clay (Lisa) Deal of Peoria, IL. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Addison, Caleb, Riley, Vickie and Mac, four great-grandchildren, Hadley, Evan Charlie and Hillary and two brothers, Michael Deal and Cecil (Elizabeth) Deal Jr. both of Dyersburg, TN.
Damon served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and spent 18 months as a P.O.W. He worked as a towboat captain for many years and last as the Captain of the Mississippi Queen and the Delta Queen working a total of over 60 years on the water. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Peoria and was a 33rd Degree mason and a member of the Mohammed Temple Shrine and the Scottish Rite Body, Valley of Peoria. Damon was loving grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service at Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Pastor Michael Deal will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

damon was one of the greatest guys i ever met, we met at a car dealership, i always enjoyed talking with him about fishing, and cars. i left the dealership years ago, i half to say i missed talking with him. bruce and laura moore are prayers are with your family.
