Dan was such a special person. What an honor it has been to know Dan and experience life with him in it. He has left behind a great legacy and for me it is a legacy of great food and fun. Dan and I exchanged many recipes and cooking tips over the years and I was always proud to tell people "this is one of Dan's recipes....". I've started cooking with a group of young men now who I can share and pass along some of what Dan shared with me.

I miss you buddy -

I knew Dan since the age of 5 while living on Elm and he was on Meade. We would ride our bikes in the flooded streets with our feet on the handle bars. Then we played Harney LLeague together and Pony League where he was a Super Star. I threw him many a pass in football at SJHigh. Later in live due to All Star Reunions we got to hook up again and drank Bordeaux just a year and half ago in Rapid. Had Dinner with him before he headed back to NOrleans, and gave him a big hug for he was a mentor to me and a Brother. See you soon in Heaven my Man. Cheers

Dan met me, cool and assured, at Armstrong International Airport in 1985. As I was coming in from Hobbs, New Mexico, I did not know that anyone was going to meet me and had assumed that I would hire a taxi to get to Conoco's office in Gretna. I do not know how he knew who I was. Dan just walked up to me with that big friendly smile of his, looked me in the eye when he stuck his hand out and said Steve Watkins, I am Dan Ness and I'm here to pick you up for Jerry Allamon. We have been friends since and have shared some very good times over the years. Dan always impressed me with his self confidence, his personal generosity, and his gregarious, engaging personality. He included everyone in any activity he was involved in and wherever he went.

Fare Well Dan Ness, I'm looking forward to meeting you again, on another fine day.

The heart of a Great Man has stilled,
Giving pause to the lives of all of us.
The voice of his Joy and his Love,
Now silent but never forgotten.
The food that he served was inspired
By the Love that he used to serve it.
I am proud to say that I knew him,
And prouder he called me a Friend.
We shall see you again in Eternity,
Rest in Peace, Sir, until then.
For when again we shall see you,
Another Life shall begin.
