Obituary

Mr. Daniel Armfield Linney, 84, died peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at his home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in The First Baptist Church sanctuary. Burial will follow at Muir's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Greensboro. Dan was a native of Wilkesboro, NC and was the son of the late William Ernest Linney and Florence Poole Linney. He attended Appalachian State University for one year before enlisting in the United States Air Force, at the start of the Korean War. Mr. Daniel Armfield Linney, 84, died peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at his home.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in The First Baptist Church sanctuary. Burial will follow at Muir's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Greensboro.

Dan was a native of Wilkesboro, NC and was the son of the late William Ernest Linney and Florence Poole Linney. He attended Appalachian State University for one year before enlisting in the United States Air Force, at the start of the Korean War. After the war, he attended Campbell University where he became interested in Drama. He then transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he completed both is undergraduate and master's degree in Drama. He taught Speech and Drama at Campbell University for 37 years, before retiring in 1996. He was a longtime member of the Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Merilyn Newcomb Linney.

Dan is survived by his sister, Carolyn Pearson of Wilkesboro, NC; daughter, Elizabeth Phillips of Garner, NC; sons, Dan Linney, Jr. of Nashville, TN and Bill Linney of Burke, VA; two stepdaughters, Melissa Conlogue of Charlotte, NC and Maleigh Hightshoe of Charlotte, NC; and his sister-in-law, Charlotte Barnes of Greensboro; and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm St. Chapel, in Greensboro.
