Daniel Silvia, 83, of New Bedford, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Yvonne (Rock) Silvia with whom he shared 13 years of marriage and the late Leoretta Silvia.

Born in Taunton, son of the late Manuel and Phoebe Silvia, he lived most of his life in New Bedford and was a graduate of Taunton High School.
Mr. Silvia was a proud United States Navy Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict.

He was a talented carpenter, mason and general contractor who worked in the construction industry for many years. He was a Police Officer for the City of New Bedford and a Captain on the Bristol County Sheriff's Department. Dan also served many terms as a board member of his church, Christian Fellowship Center.

Dan had a passion and love for cooking, especially stuffed quahogs. It became a tradition to drive his red van to deliver food to family and friends. He was an exquisite gardener and had a love for all animals, especially his cocker spaniel, Rocky. Having been raised without a father, he was the greatest father a child could hope for. His love for family and friends was truly boundless. He will be remembered as a very generous man of both thoughts and deeds. Dan was an avid sports fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Rhonda Lee Silvia of E. Freetown, Keith A. Silvia and wife Anne of Fairhaven, Bonnie Goyette and husband Joe of Rochester, Wayne D.
