Darrell R. Andrews, 78, of West Lafayette, Ohio, formerly of The Plains and Athens, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Lafayette Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. He was born in Athens County on February 12, 1934, the son of the late Clifford and Sylvia (McVay) Andrews. Darrell graduated from The Plains High School and attended Ohio University. He retired after 43 years with AEP (formerly Columbus Southern Power) Conesville, being one of the first employees at the startup of the Conesville plant in 1957. Darrell was a past member of the Toastmasters Club in Coshocton, member of the Building Committee of Ridgewood High School in 1968 and 2003; he was an active supporter of numerous Ridgewood Music Booster activities, donating many hours of time; was an 11 year member of the Ridgewood Music Boosters, drove the band bus, managed the fair stand for five years, and President of PTO. Darrell also enjoyed traveling the United States in his motorhome. On August 28, 1953 he married Betty (Brown) Andrews, who survives. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Darrell is survived by his two sons, Brian (Kathy) Andrews of Newcomerstown, Ohio, and Mark (Karen) Andrews of West Lafayette, Ohio; one daughter, Lora Jean (Terry) Davis of Dover, Ohio; grandchildren, Amanda (Damion) Balog of Salt Lake City, Utah, Malinda (Fiancé Anderson Reinheimer) Adams of Grove City, Ohio, Ryan Andrews of Newark, Ohio, Kyle Andrews of West Lafayette, Ohio, and Mark Davis of Dover, Ohio; great grandchildren, Matthew Reinheimer and Quinna Balog; sister, Betty (Dan) Bowden of Tallahassee, Florida; step-brothers, Rick (Joy) Douglas of Athens, Ohio, and Tom (Ramona) Douglas of Galloway, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In addition to his parents, Darrell is preceded in death by his step-mother, Adrienne "Peg" Andrews; step-sister, Patricia Howard; and one infant brother. Visitation will be held at Given-Dawson Funeral Home on Monday, January 28, 2013 from 4-7pm and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Given-Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 11:00am with Pastor Bryan Kittner officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery in West Lafayette, Ohio. Memorial contributions can be made to the Coshocton Community Choir, 142 N 4th Street, Coshocton, OH 43812.
