Darwin Alan Morse, 63, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Darwin was born May 10, 1950 in Birmingham, Alabama where he spent most of his life until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1967. He served his country for four years as an active duty sailor, was a Vietnam War Veteran, and then served an additional four years in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Upon discharge from the U.S. Navy he moved to Houston, TX where he worked for Cameron Iron Works, now Wyman Gordon, as a Machinist for more than 40 years and was a member of the International Assoc. of Machinist Union.
He married Donna Marie Morse, the girl he met on a blind date, on July 21, 1973 in Boston, Mass. They moved to Houston, Texas where they spent 40 years together. They had two children: Sandra Marie Morse Poag and Michael Anthony Morse.
During his life in Houston, Darwin was a member of S.P. Waltrip Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, the Arabia Shrine Military Patrol Unit, VFW – Cypress, and many other organizations. He was a founding Board Member of the Winchester Country Neighborhood Swim Team. He spent his life serving others and supported multiple charitable groups – especially the Shrine Hospital for Children.
Darwin was a beloved grandfather of five granddaughters: Madeline and Dakota Poag; Zoë, Cameron, and Finley Morse. He loved to laugh, tickle, tease and play with his girls.
Preceded in death by his father Robert Louis Morse, Sr. and stepfather Robert Lee Martin; his brother, Robert Louis Morse, Jr.; sister Michelle Martin Zikos. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Donna Morse; mother Ann C. Martin and stepmother Charlene Morse; brother Louis Morse and wife Allison, sister Sally Ricafrente and husband Dana, brother Avery Morse and wife Nancy. His children Sandra Poag and husband Joel, Michael Morse and wife Courtney; grandchildren Madeline Poag, Dakota Poag, Zoë Morse, Cameron Morse, Finley Morse. He is also survived by many beloved brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Darwin Alan Morse will be buried with military honors at the Houston National Cemetery on Monday, January 13, 2014. All Services will be held at the American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial, Houston, TX 77038. The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Sunday. Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 13, 2014 at 1:30 pm with Military Honors immediately following at the Houston National Cemetery.

I am so sorry I could not make it to the service. I remember mr. Morse when I was hanging out with Michael in high school. He was a wonderful man, husband and father. He would look out and take care of all friends of Micha as they were his own children. A great man has left us for now but will never be forgotten.
