David Lee Whetzel, 74, of New Hope, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. Born on April 8, 1942, a son of the late Perry J. and Wilma Whetzel.
David worked as a self-employed contractor. He was a member of Living Grace Church and the New Hope Ruritan Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Whetzel.
Survivors include his children, Michael Todd Whetzel, Michael Lee Whetzel-Herndon, Kimberly Hobbs and Sherry Whetzel; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; siblings, Jim Whetzel and wife, Diane, Phyllis Whetzel and Lois Whetzel; his pride and joy, Tammy Whetzel; a beloved niece, Bridget Walters; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family. David also will be greatly missed by his Living Grace Church family.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Riverheads High School with Pastor Randall Black officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends following the service at Riverheads High School. There will be no public viewing at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be payable to the David Whetzel Memorial Fund, 302 Thomas St., Staunton, VA 24401.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Hospice of the Shenandoah and his church family for their loving care of David and his family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
