David Michael Capps, age 63, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016 in his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice surrounded by his loving family.
The Presquisle, Maine native had lived in Savannah for several years before moving to Ellabell in 1985 and then to Brooklet in 2003. He was a United States Army veteran serving from 1975-1983. After his service in the Army, he joined the United States Air Force in 1985 as a security police officer, retiring in 2005. He also worked for over five years with the Savannah Metro Police Department and with Gulfstream Aerospace for more than five years. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thurmond Edward Capps.
He is survived by his wife, Melody L. Capps of Brooklet; mother, Nolie Cannon Capps of Boston, Mass; daughters, Jessica Capps of Boulder Green, Colorado; Jean Page Simmons and her husband, Mark of Guyton; Jennifer Lynn Holt and her fiancé Tiffany of Guyton and Dusty Lee English and her husband, Jerry Dean of Reidsville; brothers, Thurmond Capps and Timothy Capps both of Miami, FL; sister, Ruthie Capps of Boston, Mass; 8 granddaughters; 1 grandson and several nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 6:00 – 8:00 Pm Saturday, September 17, 2016 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, September 18, 2016 in Bible Baptist Church with Reverend John Edmisten officiating.
Mr. Capps will lie in state at the church from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour.
Burial will with military honors will be in the Capps Family Cemetery in Brooklet.

I am saddened with the news of David. I was honored to work alongside David for several years and feel more blessed today to have had that opportunity. Always the professional in his day to day duties with us, and the first person to lend a helping hand. He will be missed but never forgotten as we remember him and his service to all.
