David Thomas Allen, beloved son, husband, father, brother and friend, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014 after bravely enduring a sixteen month battle with pancreatic cancer.

David was born on September 12, 1960 in Charlotte but reared in the Odell community of Cabarrus County where he learned the values of honesty, integrity, compassion, kindness and hard work. In his early years, he worked as a farmer and livestock dealer, attending and graduating in 1978 from Northwest Cabarrus High School and in 1982 from Wake Forest University. David worked as a commodities broker for Merrill Lynch from 1982 until 1985, when he embarked on a career in commercial real estate with Coldwell Banker Commercial. In 1998, he co-founded real estate brokerage firm Trinity Partners and in 2001, it's related investment and development firm, Trinity Capital Advisors. Throughout his 29 year career in commercial real estate, David was known for his ability to make all parties involved feel as though they were treated fairly and for his interest and expertise in serving as a mentor to others who entered the field. He leaves behind many deep-rooted relationships within the real estate profession around the country. His professional legacy will be centered on integrity, professionalism and creativity.

As proud as David was of his professional achievements, nothing brought him more joy than the time he spent in the outdoors with his family and friends. In recent weeks, he stated that his "soul resides" on his family farm in Cabarrus County, where he raised beef cattle and grew gardens. He also loved the coast, especially Wrightsville Beach, where many happy memories were made.

A lifelong Presbyterian, David was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and former member of Gilwood Presbyterian in Cabarrus County. He served as a Deacon and a Stephen Minister. He cherished his Search Ministries Bible studies where he was able to ponder significant matters with dear friends. Profoundly impacted by his father's untimely death when David was eighteen years old, David took his faith seriously. He lived boldly with the underlying conviction that all would be well, that we need not fear and that we must enjoy and appreciate each day as the gift that it is.

In addition to his father, Blake Houston Allen, David was pre-deceased by a brother, Philip Blake Allen, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Jeanne Harris Allen of Concord; wife of 26 years Mari Ann Christy Allen; children Rachel Elizabeth, 22; Blake Harris, 20 and William Steven, 17; sisters Jeanne Ezzell (Larry) and Meredith Allen (Paul Settlemyer); brother Mark Allen (Sandy); parents-in-law Rachel and Steve Christy; and brother and sister-in-law Dr. Ralph (Chris) and Kay Christy. He also leaves behind cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless dear friends.

The Allen family wishes to especially thank our friends Ruth and Clark Bierbaum, who have been by our sides every day since David's cancer diagnosis as well as the many other friends who have sustained us with meals, visits, prayers and consoling words. We also are grateful to David's team of doctors at Levine Cancer Institute, led by Dr. Reza Nazemzadah. He remains an inspiration for his compassionate care, gentle spirit and abiding faith.

A memorial service to honor God and celebrate David's life will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd at 2:00P.M. in the sanctuary of Myers Park Presbyterian Church with visitation following.

Memorial gifts may be directed to Levine Cancer Institute-Pancreatic Cancer, P.O. 32861, Charlotte, NC, 28232 or to Search Ministries, 1043 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC, 28204.
