David Allred Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2013.

David, 67, of Oak Island and formerly of Charlotte, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013.

Born December 18, 1945 in Charlotte, David was a son of Pauline Nunn Allred and the late Arnil Ray Allred. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and a retired Charlotte City Police Officer, where he had served as School Resource Officer for several years. He also coached PopWarner football.

David was associated with Oak Island Presbyterian Church, as well as a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

He will be especially remembered for his love of fishing and socializing from his favorite pier on Oak Island, his love of gardening and being involved in construction projects, and for his keen sense of humor.

David's greatest love was for his family, including his wife, Susan Mauldwin Allred; two daughters, Heather Giancarlo, her husband, Larry, and their children, Madison and Chandler Giancarlo, of Mint Hill, and Whitney Watson, her husband, Baran, and their children, Karlyn and Katie Watson, also of Mint Hill; as well as his mother, Pauline Allred of Candor.

Also surviving are five brothers and sisters, Edie Kuper and husband, John, of Raleigh, Cecil Allred and wife, Ann, of Piedmont, SC, Donald Allred and wife, Deborah, Roger Allred and wife, Teresa, and Lauri Chriscoe and husband, Kenneth, all of Rockingham.

In addition to his father, David was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Allred.

A service to celebrate David's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15th in the Chapel of Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road. His family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.

Memorials may be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund; Lower Cape Fear Hospice; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Susan, he loved you so. Kahlil Gibran said "The bitterest thing in our today's sorrow is the memory of our yesterday's joy" It is those joyous, happy moments that will help outweigh the sorrow that we bear today. God give you and the girls peace.

David was one of the regulars I looked forward to seeing on my visits to Ocean Crest Pier. He picked on me as one of the tourist and I'd make him smile when I'd tell him I was leaving for home. Like many others that fish there I miss him on my visits.
