Obituary

David G. Benson died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at home in Reisterstown, Maryland surrounded by his family. He was born in Chicago on February 12, 1933. He was the son of the late Earle Benson and Ruth Yount Benson. He is survived by his wife Carolyn and sons Paul of Millers, MD and Earle of Catonsville, MD; a sister Nancy Ross of Columbus, Ohio; a brother Stephen of Charlotte, North Carolina, and granddaughters Katerina and Sofie. Mr. Benson had a passion for antique automobiles and was past President of the Chesapeake region of the Antique Automobile Club of America. David G. Benson died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at home in Reisterstown, Maryland surrounded by his family. He was born in Chicago on February 12, 1933. He was the son of the late Earle Benson and Ruth Yount Benson. He is survived by his wife Carolyn and sons Paul of Millers, MD and Earle of Catonsville, MD; a sister Nancy Ross of Columbus, Ohio; a brother Stephen of Charlotte, North Carolina, and granddaughters Katerina and Sofie.

Mr. Benson had a passion for antique automobiles and was past President of the Chesapeake region of the Antique Automobile Club of America. An avid collector of vintage cars, he enjoyed various activities of all the car clubs to which he belonged.

He was the past president of Restaurant Administration Corporation and at one time owned several Ponderosa Steak Houses. He started Patriot steak houses which had a more Colonial decor. He was also associated with Rax Roast Beef and Wendy's restaurants.

During his service with the United States Army, he served in Germany in the Intelligence branch of the Fifth Infantry Division. He attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois whose family members span several generations. He graduated from Purdue University with an Engineering degree and joined Whirlpool Corporation in St. Joseph, Michigan.

Mr. Benson enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake, traveling and classical music. He was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church where he held several positions on the church council.

The family will receive friends in the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, MD 21093 on Tuesday, April 29 from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9pm. A memorial service will be celebrated in the Grace English Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8601 Valley Field Road, Lutherville, MD 21093, on Wednesday, April 30 at 10:30AM. Interment Private. Memorials may be made to Gilchrist Hospice Care, 11311 McCormick Road, Suite 350, Hunt Valley, MD 21031 or Grace English Evangelical Lutheran Church at the above address.
