David "Dave" John Bies, 53, passed away on Friday August 11, 2017 of a heart attack while at work in Tucson, Arizona. Dave was born on December 8, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois and he lived for the past 42 years in Tucson. He was always a hard worker no matter what industry he was working in. Over the years, Dave was a business owner, private pilot, supervisor of airline operations for ExpressJet Airlines, and most recently, he worked as a property manager and maintenance supervisor. Dave was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Bies; his daughter and son-in-law, Nicole Bies-Hernandez and Esidro Hernandez; his son, David Matthew Bies and grandson Nicolas Bies; his two sisters, Jan Hardy (Steve) and Mary Bies; as well as many biological and "surrogate" nieces and nephews (too many to name). David did not consider biology when defining his family, and thus has countless individuals including his baseball friends that were very important to him (you know who you are). He was the youngest of four children and was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Bies.
When he was not spending time with his family, "Diamond Dave" was on the baseball field. He loved baseball since he was a kid and played for 23 years in the Tucson MSBL/MABL (Men's Senior Baseball League/Men's Amateur Baseball League). Dave was inducted into the MSBL/MABL hall of fame in 2013, an honor that made him and his family so proud.
The celebration of Dave's life will be on Monday August 21, 2017 at East Lawn Palms Mortuary. Services will start at 1P.M. and there will be a gathering with light fare and refreshments immediately following the services. If you cannot attend the services, please feel free to pay your respects to the family at the gathering. Given Dave's bright and fun nature, he would want the services to be a celebration of his life and thus please do not wear the traditional all black attire. If you would like to wear your favorite jersey to reflect his passion for baseball, we think that would make him smile. In lieu in flowers, please contribute to either the family (https://www.gofundme.com/in-loving-memory-of-david-bies) and/or your local youth baseball organization (e.g., I9 Sports; Boys & Girls Club).

I miss you Dad! The world was changed the day you left and it sucks so bad! You were and are a great soul and I believe you are next to your parents. I will do my best to honor you and our family by raising a good person who works hard for his family like you did. You never stopped teaching me and even when I was wrong you fought to make me see the right way. you continued to teach me after I was a adult so I would become a good person. you were my friend, my mentor, my smile on a sad day and my comfort on a cold night! Thank you so much for being my dad! love you bud!

Sir Bies,
The game ain't the same without you on the field. I miss my 'mate, my warmup partner, mentor, and friend. I hope one day I'll have the honor to play with you once again, compadre. I've heard the grass is greener on the other side, and your teammates make fewer errors up there! Keep a watch over Sue and family while you break in your new home in the sky.

David was an amazing member of the MEB family. We all greatly appreciated his team attitude and his skill in both management and construction. He accomplished so much for his residents at Catalina Vista and really put everything he had into the improvement of the community. We will all miss him greatly and send our heartfelt condolences to his wonderful family.

I use to be a first Responder, and I even got a chance use those medic skills,
last monday nite at Catalina Vista Apts. David saved my life, by trusting me as a person, not whats on a document would say.
Thank You David, my friend, and I guess the Spirit World, needed you more
as a Apartment manager.

I will miss Dave greatly. I've played with him and against him since the the first day he wanted to join a team. I enjoyed the traditional "handslap" at the end of the game and he always had something friendly to say. Goodbye Dave. I am praying for your family.

Jan, Mary, Danny, I am so saddened about David's passing and I wish I could be with you at this difficult time. I will never forget that David brought me back a souvenir from Tucson: an orange juice can filled with sand and pebbles! You are all in my prayers and in my heart. Love, Jan

My prayers go out to all of Dave's family and friends. I spent all 23 years with Dave in the Tucson Men's Senior Baseball League. It was my honor to stand on the field with him the night he was inducted in Hall of Fame. Dave was smiling ear to ear with emotion and pride. I played with Dave and against him and it was always fun. His sportsmanship was unmatched by anyone. Save me spot on the baseball team in heaven Dave. You will be playing with all the greats now.

Dave was such a good guy and I am saddened by your loss. I've played with Dave as a teammate and was looking forward to this year's World Series to play with him again. I've played against Dave's teams many times and when he would pitch he would seem to hit me a lot. We had a running joke about that. We will dedicate this World Series to his memory. Sue, my condolences to you and your family. Dave will truly be missed.

Sue, Nicole and David my heart is completing broken for all of you. As you know Dave meant the world to me and my sons as do the rest of you. Very seldom in life are we lucky enough to meet someone as special as Dave. His generosity, kindness and compassion knew no boundaries. I will forever be grateful that he and the rest of your family came into my life. I wish I was there with all of you during this time, but know I am there in spirit. Love you all. My friend you will be missed
