David Ulysses Campbell, 88, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at his residence. He was the husband of Faye Stump Campbell for 66 years. Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Casper Campbell and the late Elizabeth Apperson Campbell. Dave was a faithful member of Euclid Christian Church, a retired Vice President of Central Fidelity National Bank and, most recently, he was the retired host of the Jerry Falwell Museum. David Ulysses Campbell, 88, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at his residence. He was the husband of Faye Stump Campbell for 66 years.

Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Casper Campbell and the late Elizabeth Apperson Campbell.

Dave was a faithful member of Euclid Christian Church, a retired Vice President of Central Fidelity National Bank and, most recently, he was the retired host of the Jerry Falwell Museum. He was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and Lynchburg College, Class of 1949. He was very community minded, having served as the Chairman of the Lynchburg Bicentennial in 1986, Past Chairman of the March of Dimes, and former Board member of the Virginia School of the Arts, Lynchburg Community Market, Lynchburg Airport Commission, Lynchburg Host Lions Club and the Bryan-Wade Trust Fund. He was a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee and former treasurer of the Lynchburg College Alumni Association. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. during World War II.

Dave loved kids and sports and was named Coach of the Year in 1961. He was a founding member and former President of the Lynchburg Sports Club. He was elected to both the Lynchburg Sports Hall of Fame and the Lynchburg College Sports Hall of Fame. In conjunction with Anne Heald and L.H. McCue, Jr., he was responsible for installing lights at the E.C. Glass Tennis Courts.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sherry C. Callahan and her husband, William, of Amherst; one son, David Keith Campbell and his wife, Martha, of Lynchburg; one sister, Rebecca Campbell and her husband, Carl, of Shippensburg, PA; three grandchildren, Dr. Heather Maddox, Sean C. Maddox and Regan E. Freeman and five great grandchildren, Nicholas Sale, Patrick Sale, Hayden Maddox, Hampton Freeman and Hudson Freeman.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Euclid Christian Church by the Rev. Jack Hamilton, the Rev. Dr. Douglas Pillow and the Rev. Dr. Edward Parrish. A reception will follow in the church hall after the service.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2012, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to the Liberty University Athletic Association, 1971 University Blvd., Lynchburg, VA 24502.
