David attended North Carolina public schools and was a proud graduate of North Carolina State University in Industrial Engineering. He was always interested in the electrical design of commercial products growing up and was blessed to fulfill his passion in a career in mobile phone research and development. His work brought him to all parts of the world where he was exposed to different cultures and beautiful lands. He loved the outdoors, especially his vegetable gardening and mountain hiking. A dedicated and enthusiastic Wolfpack fan, he loved to attend NCSU football, basketball and baseball games with friends.

David was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband and proud dad to his two daughters. He was a person of deep and abiding faith and an active member of Saint Francis United Methodist Church. The family wishes to express gratitude to our church community, beloved family, friends and David's colleagues for their tremendous support during his illness.

He is survived by his wife, Janeen Almond Goodwin; stepdaughter, Shelby Ruth Austin, and daughter, Allison Lee Goodwin. Additional survivors include brother, Gary Goodwin of Sophia, NC; sisters, Judy Thurow and husband Norman of San Antonio, TX, and Susan Webb and husband Alden of Rockingham, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Saint Francis United Methodist Church, 2965 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary, NC 27511. Preceding the service, family will receive relatives and friends from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at a reception in the St. Francis Fellowship Hall. Burial will follow the service at Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Francis UMC (see above address) , the V Foundation for cancer research at (www.jimmyv.org) / 106 Towerview Court, Cary, NC 27513 or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266/(www.pancan.org).
