David M. Hanzes, 26, of Kingston, PA (formerly of Binghamton) lost his battle with severe depression on Tuesday, August 26, 2014. David was born on June 2, 1988, in Kingston PA. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Audrey C. Wandell, his paternal grandparents Frank B. and Mary K. Hanzes. David is survived by his parents David A. and Colleen L. Hanzes; his sister Rebecca L. Hanzes and her fiancé Gary A. Dewey; his grandfather John R. Wandell, and his special friend Rebecca Salko. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. David graduated from Chenango Forks High School in 2006 and attended Penn State University. He was employed as a store manager at CVS Pharmacy in Pittston, PA. David was a devoted Penn State football fan and we believe that he is now enjoying an in-depth discussion on college football with Joe Pa. He leaves behind fellow Penn State fraternity brothers and Chenango Forks friends that he considered brothers. He also had many friends at various CVS Pharmacy locations in NY and PA. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 31, from 3-6pm at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, NY. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, September 1 at 10am at St. Francis of Assisi in Hillcrest, NY Burial to follow at a later date in Uniontown PA. As you go through your life be sure to embrace your family and friends! Please understand that depression is an illness and encourage those that are suffering to seek help.

I do not know you, but I also have a 26 year old son that graduated from CF and suffers from severe depression. We struggle with his mental illness daily and we as parents try very hard to encourage, advocate and pray for our loved ones to have "peace of mind". I know your struggles, I know your daily challenges and constant worries. I pray that you find peace of mind and comfort in knowing that your son is with God, happy, laughing and most of all free... God Bless all of You

Dave and I became friends when he came to manage our store on Carey Ave in Wilkes-Barre and that continued through his other assignments. I didn't know him as long as others have but I value the time I had just the same. He will be missed, never forgotten, and we shall celebrate the times spent with him with stories shared amongst friends and co-workers. My sincere condolences go out to his family and friends as our world's have lost another good soul that made our days a little better when we shared them with David.

I first met Dave when I was transferred to his CVS on Carey Ave. He took the time to teach me and stayed patient when I was a royal pain asking him a million and one questions. He quickly went from my boss/coworker to a dear friend. He made my bad days good, and my good days even better. He was so kind and made a huge impact on my life. Thanks for the memories Dave. I am deeply sorry for your loss. He will be forever loved and sadly missed.

Dave was one of the best guys I've come to know. I had the pleasure of working with him at CVS. He always knew how to cheer someone up and make their day. He went above and beyond for all of his staff.
He loved to watch horse racing, he always told me liked to read. He always talked about his moms cat :) Like I told Dave, this year on his birthday a few months ago, friends like Dave are like four leaf clovers...hard to find but lucky to have!
Rest in Peace, Dave. My prayers and condolences to his family.
