David Jodka Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 30, 2014.

JODKA, David Michael Of Scituate, beloved husband of Kathleen and loving father of Clare, Andrew, Conor and Matthew passed away peacefully on October 29, 2014.

Dave is remembered most for his love of family, friends and music. Aside from his family, music was Dave's biggest love. He started playing in bands early in life, most notably Fat Boy, and his eagerness to rock never stopped. That is a love that he instilled in his children until the end and continues today. Whether it was rocking out with the kids on a Saturday morning, singing karaoke on a night out with friends or seeing his smiling face when 80's metal came on the radio, it is how we will remember him best. He truly was a rock star and always will be!!

Dave was born in Hartford, CT on July 1, 1970 and was raised in Newton, MA. He married Kathleen Kiernan on July 17, 2004. After briefly residing in Portsmouth, NH, Kathleen and Dave settled their family in Scituate, MA. He attended Newton North High School followed by Skidmore College where Dave earned his bachelor's degree in psychology. He later earned his MBA from the F.W. Olin School of Management at Babson College focusing in finance and entrepreneurship. Dave's distinguished career of over 20 years in the financial services industry began at MFS where he met his wife, Kathleen. He subsequently joined Evergreen Investments/Wells Fargo Advisors where he was a Vice President and Regional Sales Manager. Most recently Dave worked at Schroder Investment Management where he served as the head of US Intermediary Sales. He was an exemplary professional and had great admiration and respect for his many colleagues throughout his career.

In addition to his wife and children, Dave is survived by his parents Richard and Kathleen Jodka and Beverly Harmon; his grandmother Gertrude Jodka; his sister, Meghan and her husband Jim Norcross; his nephew and niece Colin and Brenna Norcross; his parents-in-law Tony and Susan Kiernan as well as Kathleen's siblings, spouses and their children; Brendan and Tatiana Kiernan, Anna, Emily and Brigid; Elizabeth and Matt Berry, Margaret, Charlie and Thomas; Patrick and Erin Kiernan, Owen, Quinn, Liam and Bree and Matthew and Suzie Kiernan, as well as a loving extended family.

Following a private burial, Kathleen, Clare, Andrew, Conor and Matthew will receive family and friends at Scituate Maritime Center, 119 Edward Foster Rd, Scituate from 2PM to 5PM on Saturday, November 1, 2014.

A liturgy in celebration of Dave's life will be held on Sunday, November 2nd at 3PM in St Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St, Scituate, MA.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dave's memory to The South Shore Conservatory, 1 Conservatory Dr., Hingham, MA 02043. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/bostonglobe/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=173000461#sthash.XRMR6p5Z.dpuf

I enjoyed working with Dave many years ago when he first came to MFS. Years later, when my daughter was considering colleges and Skidmore was on her list, I connected with Dave on Linked in to get the scoop on his alma mater. He was funny, gracious and eager to help in any way he can. That's the spirit of a great human being.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Dave will be missed,

Hi Dave, I know in your own special way you can read this and I am sorry I got this off late as I just found out about your move. As you recall, we met years ago at Merrill Lynch and I was impresed from the beginning. I never did know the other faces of Dave Jodka, husband, father, but as a business associate you are a class act, as you must have been in all your other daily lives. Great character is hard to find, we did in you. Sorry we all won't see you for awhile, looking forward to catching up though. In the meantime, catch us if we ever stumble. Best, Larry Streb

So sorry to hear about David. He was such a sweet guy. It has been many years since I had seen him. We went to school together. When we were 12 years old we went to camp together up in Maine. Dave had a great sense of humor. He could bring everyone's spirits up because he was so funny. It was that kind of infectious laughter where you can't do anything else because you are practically crying from laughing. I know he will be greatly missed. My condolences to your family

Kath - I'm sending all my love and hugs.
The tide recedes but leaves behind
bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle
warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops, and yet it echoes
on in sweet refrains.....
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains.

David Jodka was my best friend throughout high school. He was a great person -- smart, insightful, thoughtful and loyal – and he had a great sense of humor. He loved both his father and his mother and spoke highly of them. He spoke highly of his sister as well. I remember well the house he grew up in on Holly Road in Waban. He loved music and enjoyed playing soccer. He served as an advisor to younger high school students on peer pressure issues. I remember driving out to the Worcester Centrum to see concerts with him including Boston, Billy Squier, Rush, Chicago and others. David had a good and loyal group of friends (Adam, Jeremy, Eric, Cathy, Sapna, Maria, Pooneh and of course many others) and I don't know anyone who ever had a bad thing to say about him. I recall that he was popular as a counselor at his summer camp, and I recall getting enthusiastic and optimistic letters from him. I remember when he first got his driver's license, when he sprained his ankle on the soccer field, and him telling me about the girls in high school he liked. He had posters all over the walls of his room. I can't ever remember being upset at him for anything.

I didn't see David often in the past 15 years, as way led onto way. We cannot be sure what impact we have on each other early in life and what impact others might have on us. In “The Frisco Kid”, Gene Wilder says: “In the Talmud, it says ‘find thyself a teacher.'" David taught through example. He was a dynamic and interesting person, and a model as to what a friend should be. Perhaps over the years I've been a better friend to people because of the way he was a friend to me.

To all the Jodka and Kiernan family our deepest sympathy. Bud and I have known Dave a short while but in that time we have been so inspired by the abundance of love that Dave gave and received from his family and friends. That love is truly a testiment to the family. I know that Dave has left us physically but he will forever be with all of us in a very special way.

Peace,Love, and Blessings to you all
