David Lee Pederson, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Janet Pederson, his daughter, Jessica Pederson Saunders, and son-in-law Mike Saunders, son, Michael Pederson, and grandson, Harper. He is also survived by two brothers, Jeffrey Pederson of Denham Springs, LA, and Norman Pederson of Raleigh, NC, and two sisters, Jacqueline Fife and Patricia Vasser, both of Baton Rouge, LA, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. David Lee Pederson, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Pederson, his daughter, Jessica Pederson Saunders, and son-in-law Mike Saunders, son, Michael Pederson, and grandson, Harper. He is also survived by two brothers, Jeffrey Pederson of Denham Springs, LA, and Norman Pederson of Raleigh, NC, and two sisters, Jacqueline Fife and Patricia Vasser, both of Baton Rouge, LA, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded by his parents, Jacqueline and Leif Pederson of Baton Rouge, LA.

David was born in Superior, Wisconsin, in 1949 and grew up primarily in Baton Rouge, LA, where he graduated from Baton Rouge High School, Louisiana State University and Southeastern Louisiana University. He was an avid LSU fan. He was an Eagle Scout, Scoutmaster of Troop 314 at St. Raphael from 1994-2006, and Order of the Arrow. He was Chairman of the National Eagle Scout Board. He volunteered with the Scouts wherever he lived, whether in Baton Rouge, Bay City, MI, or Raleigh, and continued working with the Boys Scouts of America until this year. He was with the Occoneechee Council, and was Chairman of the COPE and Climbing course at Camp Durant. He was a Mentor, Instructor, Facilitator and Trainer. He was a Brother of the Knights of Columbus. He was retired from the North Carolina State Department of Health and Human Services.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 p.m., on Friday, March 21, 2014, at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 5801 Fall of Neuse Road in Raleigh, NC. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at St. Raphael. Arrangements through Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Millbrook Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Centers of North Carolina or the Boy Scouts of America, 3231 Atlantic Avenue, Raleigh, NC, 27604.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Berry, his staff at Cancer Centers of North Carolina. David's wit, charm and giving disposition will be missed by many.
