David Pugh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 15, 2013.

David Pugh, 77, of Ventura, died on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at his home. Dave was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 10, 1935 to William and Grace Pugh. He was the sixth of nine children. Dave had been a Ventura County resident for 30 years.

He moved to Sacramento as a teenager. After serving in the Marines for three years, Dave attended Sacramento College. His career started with a worker's compensation insurance company in Los Angeles. It was there where he met his wife Elmerina.

In the early 80's Dave decided to make income tax preparation his full time career. He moved to Ventura in 1983. Dave loved his job and loved teasing his clients with his dry sense of humor. For many years Dave was on the Ventura College Foundation Board and served as chairman for a few of those years.

Dave leaves behind his wife Elmerina of 50 years; daughters, Tracy Carlton and Tricia Pugh-Covarrubias (Rene); "the loves of his life" his grandchildren, Tristan Carlton, Truman Carlton, William Miller, Nichole Miller (Joe), and Cameron Miller, all residing in Ventura; sister, Mary Jane Wheeldon (George) of Shingle Springs; brother, Tom of Phoenix, AZ, brothers-in-law; William Morton (Pat) of Moorpark and Lee Reams of Calabasas; numerous nieces and nephews.

Thank you to the Spa Nursing staff at Community Memorial Hospital for taking such good care of Dave on his bi-weekly visits.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, 2:00 P.M. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura with the Reverend Dan Hull officiating. The United States Marine Corps will render military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ventura College Foundation Scholarship Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, Ventura.

Dearest Elmerina, Tracy and Tricia. You are my second mother to me Elmerina, forever. I knew immediately when a message was left on my phone that I had to reschedule due to an emergency on Thursday for my Friday appointment. I called back that afternoon on March 14th and asked the lady at the desk? What happened to Dave and she told me. I just knew it had happened.

Now to happy things. I was very fortunate to meet you and Dave as patients in my dental office 30 years ago. That is when I met you and house sat for you and the girls (Tracy and Tricia) after you purchased Gil Lowrys business. I am so happy I had met you after that. Elmerina... You have been mine and my ex-husband Steves accountant our whole life. Dave has been my mothers. Dave continued with my mom Maria even after she moved from Ventura Up to Northern California in Redding. My mom loved Dave and will never forget his help.

Love alway Heidi Robinson

Neal & Rusty Owings

My wife and I met Dave approximately thirty two years ago when we were in our third year of marriage. Gil Lowry was retiring from the tax business and referred Dave. It didn't take long for us to realize what a real valuable gem Dave was. We could have changed to another tax preparer over the years, but his expertise and the friendship we developed made that impossible. We haven't had an opportunity to meet with Dave in person since we moved to Missouri, in 2006, but we did talk on the phone as recently as the week before his passing. As tired as he was, his attitude was good and was a pleasure to talk with. We missed the meetings in his office when he would play Rusty like a fiddle (teasing her) during tax season. Dave was a fine man and a good friend, we will certainly miss him. There is no doubt in our mind where he is now and some day we pray we are fortunate enough to meet him there. Our prayers are with Elmerina and the rest of Daves family.

Lori Silvey

Dear Elmerina and Family,

We are so sad to hear of Dave's passing. He began doing my late Father's and my taxes thirty years ago, and my husband's and mine as well. We always looked forward to our annual visits, even when the news was not so good. Dave was such a "larger than life" personality, we truly loved him and prayed diligently for his health after he shared his diagnosis. Rarely have I seen someone face a situation so daunting with such grace and courage.
It has been our great privilege to have known him, and been even a small part of his life here on Earth. If there's an IRS in Heaven, the game is on!

Our prayers and love to all of his Family,
Lori and Bryan Silvey

Great smile and a wonderful sense of humor. Thanks for the coffee.

Dave was our dear friend of 25 years, a Hero in everybody's eyes that knew him. He fought a battle with a brave heart with his powerful weapons of Courage and Optimism. He kept a smile regardless of the bumpy road ahead of him. He was a man with Values and Principles, who loved America with all his heart. He sorrounded himself with memorabilia from heroes and winners. A humble man that showed love and respect to his family, friend and clients.
Dave is etched in our minds and hearts. His laughs and "Oops" when teasing us on our yearly visit for our donation to Uncle Sam.
Eldemira, Tricia and Tracy, you have us as an addition to your family. We can not be there physically but we will be there in spirit with you.
"The Lord Bless you, and keep you, the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace"
With all our love,
