David Gary Rinehart is conducting a choir of angels in the presence of his Lord and Savior, and the sound is glorious. David, 46, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016, along with his daughter, Sophie Grace Rinehart, and his mother, Ruth Ann Rinehart. David was born September 18, 1970, in Evansville, to Gary and Ruth Ann (Girton) Rinehart.
He was the worship and music pastor for more than 22 years at Crossroads Christian Church. He was a 1988 graduate of William Henry Harrison High School, attended the University of Southern Indiana, and graduated from Kentucky Christian College in 1990. David was instrumental in the organization of the Worship Arts Academy and created the youth choir at Crossroads. He also organized and produced music celebrations at Crossroads and Easter services at the Ford Center. He was proud of being an Eagle Scout and member of Boy Scout Troop 322. David was a connoisseur of the fine arts; he loved listening to all genres of music, had a love for collecting records, but especially music from the 70's. Piano was his passion and he used this gift to bring others to Christ. He was a loving father, brother, son, and husband, and never met a stranger.
David is survived by his daughters, Josie and Rylie Rinehart, and their mother, Lucinda Rinehart; father, Gary Rinehart; brother, Shawn (Hannah) Rinehart; sister, Sara (Chad) Rinehart McAtee; nieces and nephews, Tatem, Jonas, and Scarlett Rinehart, and Ellison, Ayden, and Adler McAtee; uncles, David Girton and Lonnie Hansen; aunts, Kathy Rinehart, Jan McCollum, and Kathy Hansen; cousins, Megan Malchioni, Haley Girton, Katie Brucks, Christopher Hansen, Kristin Laszlo, Jenny and David Rinehart.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Crossroads Christian Church, officiated by Pastor Ken Idleman and Pastor Todd Bussey, with private burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM and 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
David lived his life making a joyful noise unto the Lord.

My parents attended Crossroads for many years and always spoke highly of David. When my mother was dying she ask David to visit her and pray with her. When he arrived she was asleep, he called me and said a prayer with me. He also said he would be "honored " to speak at her funeral. I did not know David, but his eulogy was so personalized and was such a comfort to all of us. I found out that day what a wonderful man he was. My heartfelt sympathy extends to all who knew and cared for this man and his family.

David it's hard not knowing that you are not in the world today. David was a light in a dark place. He was a man after Gods own heart. And we already missed not seeing any more of you by moving back to CA. But we do know that God has one of his best creations David Rinehart and his lovely Mom Ms. Ann, and a very talented daughter Sophie with many of the gifts God gave David. We still find it heart breaking that they all left this world so young and with so many God given gifts. All three of them are now in the presents of the Lord. Lord of Lords and King of Kings. We will miss you all and we will pray that the Rinehart family find what they need in God to come through there great loss. We love you and miss you.

Our deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. I had the pleasure of being Dave's roommate for two semesters at KCC. In that short time, I got to know a man of God with immense talent for not only music but for bringing comfort to people's lives as well. I will hold the memories of him close. May the care and love of everyone around you continue to provide comfort and peace in the days ahead.

In preparation for worship one weekend, sound check was being done and I began to sing "I Go To The Rock". Before it was realized Pastor David was singing background vocals. Upon getting approval the sound for my microphone was okay, Pastor David said, " I forgot about that one. Woo, that was fun!" I will miss his smile, laugh and quiet gentle spirit. Heaven has certainly gained one of the greatest! My prayers to the Rinehart and Crossroads families. "When the earth all around me is sinking sand, on Christ the solid rock I stand. When I need a shelter, when I need a friend, I go to the Rock".

My son, Josh Griffin, met "Pastor Dave", as Josh has always called him, years ago when Josh was a young man needing guidance and they instantly clicked because of their love for music and the Lord. Josh attended Crossroads and played the sax in their band. Eight years ago when Josh moved out of state he still kept in contact with Dave for advice and guidance. This past June Josh got married. He would have no other pastor to conduct the service but Pastor Dave. Thankfully, Dave was available to fly out of state to conduct such a beautiful service for the bride and groom, even though his plane didn't arrive until midnight the night before the wedding. I had met Dave a few times in the past when we attended services at Crossroads. At the wedding Dave pulled me aside and we got to share memories of Josh as a young man and his children also. My heart breaks for my son, who has lost his mentor, guider and friend. My prayers go out to the Reinhart family and also Crossroads Church who have lost an incredible person.

I was blessed to of had 16 years worshiping with David and Ruth and so glad I have my memory pictures of our many mission trips together. Watching Sophie blossom from baby to the inspirational young woman she also left a legacy. I am going to miss them so much but I think David has plans to lead us in choir again when we get to go to heaven. He always said "be flexible God is in control".
