David C. Shaw, 91, of Fort Smith, died January 11, 2014 in Fort Smith. He was born February 4, 1922 in Newtown, Ohio to Charles and Josephine Griese Shaw. He served in World War II as a Lieutenant with the 44th Infantry Division in the European Theater, receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and 3 Campaign Ribbons. He graduated for the University of Cincinnati, receiving a degree in Industrial Engineering, and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He was employed with Donoho & Merry Insurance, as Treasurer/Agent, for over 30 years. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Gleaners Sunday...
David C. Shaw, 91, of Fort Smith, died January 11, 2014 in Fort Smith. He was born February 4, 1922 in Newtown, Ohio to Charles and Josephine Griese Shaw. He served in World War II as a Lieutenant with the 44th Infantry Division in the European Theater, receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and 3 Campaign Ribbons. He graduated for the University of Cincinnati, receiving a degree in Industrial Engineering, and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He was employed with Donoho & Merry Insurance, as Treasurer/Agent, for over 30 years. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Gleaners Sunday School Class, and a teacher for 28 years. He served as Board Chairman, and on many Church committees and in youth activities over the years. In the community he was a 32nd Degree Mason, and member of the Noon Exchange Club in which he served as President. He is survived by his wife Patricia Yeager Shaw of Fort Smith; two sons, Dr. David L. Shaw and wife Jeanne of Niceville, FL., and Richard C. Shaw and wife Cathey of Fort Collins, CO; one daughter, Cindy Lee Shaw Ballard of North Little Rock, AR; nine grandchildren, Carlye Shaw Dudgeon, Todd Shaw, Matt Shaw, Shawn Ballard, Chad Ballard, Heather Shaw Podmore, Emily Shaw, Gretchen Shaw Gruenberger, and Mary Shaw; and seven great grandchildren, Elizabeth Dudgeon, Grant Dudgeon, John Brewer Dudgeon, Atreyu Gruenberger, Arys Gruenberger, Catherine Podmore, and Charlotte Podmore; two sisters in law, Marilyn Shaw of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Jean Johnson Shaw of Loveland, Ohio; extended family, Tom, Evelyn, Doug, Betsy, Griffin, Blake, Ethan Wilson and Jim Yeager. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Carolan Shaw after 44 years of marriage; his parents, and two brothers, Charles and Richard Shaw. Memorial service will be Monday, January 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church of Fort Smith. Private burial will be the U.S. National Cemetery. Cremation and services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family will greet friends following the memorial in Narthex of the First United Methodist Church.
