MORTON - David L. Shriver, 85, of Morton, Ill., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria, surrounded by those who meant most to him, his family. David was born April 22, 1928, to Arthur and Ada (Brewer) Shriver in Nagle, Mo. He married Marie Burrows on March 1, 1948, in Salem, Ark. She survives. Also surviving are two children, Karen (Fred) Schmidgall of East Peoria, Ill., and Danette (Stan) Sipka of Creve Coeur, Ill.; four grandchildren, Christopher (Erin) Schmidgall of Valparaiso, Ind., Craig (Jenn) Schmidgall of Mackinaw, Ill., Brad (Jaime) Wheeler of East Peoria, Ill., and...
MORTON - David L. Shriver, 85, of Morton, Ill., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria, surrounded by those who meant most to him, his family.
David was born April 22, 1928, to Arthur and Ada (Brewer) Shriver in Nagle, Mo. He married Marie Burrows on March 1, 1948, in Salem, Ark. She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Karen (Fred) Schmidgall of East Peoria, Ill., and Danette (Stan) Sipka of Creve Coeur, Ill.; four grandchildren, Christopher (Erin) Schmidgall of Valparaiso, Ind., Craig (Jenn) Schmidgall of Mackinaw, Ill., Brad (Jaime) Wheeler of East Peoria, Ill., and Harold "Gene" (Britney) Gibson of Pekin, Ill.; three brothers, John (Nora) Shriver of Elk Creek, Mo., Charles (Cathy) Shriver of Elk Creek, Mo., and Walter (Muriel) Shriver of Ozark, Mo.; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
David worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company as a machinist for 32 years. He retired from Cat in 1982. He had a strong faith in God, who always came first. He loved his family so very much, and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved going to all of his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's events. He was an avid woodworker, and made special toys for each of his grandkids.
Services for David will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Faith United Methodist Church in East Peoria. Pastor Gary Billiot will officiate the service. Visitation will be held tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. at Remmert Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
Memorial donations in honor of David may be made to Faith United Methodist Church or St. Jude's Midwest Affiliate.
