DeWayne William Crumb , 73, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, in Colorado Springs. He was born on January 7, 1938, in Colorado Springs to Albert W. Crumb and Katherine Rawson Crumb. He graduated from Goodland High School in Goodland KS, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart Candace Hertneky on June 5, 1960. In 1962, DeWayne graduated from The Colorado College and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He spent his life dedicated to serving others and mentoring the youth of this community with 50 years of educating, coaching and officiating. DeWayne William Crumb , 73, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, in Colorado Springs.

He was born on January 7, 1938, in Colorado Springs to Albert W. Crumb and Katherine Rawson Crumb. He graduated from Goodland High School in Goodland KS, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart Candace Hertneky on June 5, 1960.

In 1962, DeWayne graduated from The Colorado College and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

He spent his life dedicated to serving others and mentoring the youth of this community with 50 years of educating, coaching and officiating. He retired from SD#11 in 1992 after 30 years at Horace Mann Middle School. He was nominated for Colorado Teacher of the Year Award in 1986.

He coached many athletes to City Championships in basketball, wrestling and track. He officiated all levels of amateur Track and Field including collegiate meets at the Air Force Academy and for the Rocky Mtn Athletic Conference. As a USATF official, he started the Last-Chance US/Canada meet for the Atlantic Olympics, the Colorado State Games, and the Games America. He was a CHSAA –selected State Starter for both Cross Country and Track and Field and certified Master starter for indoor and outdoor Mountain West Conference championships. In 1998, he received the Adolph Bakun Distinguished Service Award by the Pikes Peak Track and Field Officials Assoc. In 1999, he was awarded the National Federation Officials Assoc. Boys and Girls Cross Country Official of the Year and was Colorado Track and Field Officials Assoc. Official of the Year in 2009. Colorado USA Track and Field Assoc awarded him a Life-Time Achievement award in 2010.
When not attending the athletic events of his daughters and grandsons, DeWayne was an avid geologist and rock collector, fisherman, gardener, Bronco fan and recycling fanatic.

He is preceded in death by brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Brenda Wolfe (Paul) and Nancy Pellow (Pat); mother, Jerry Crumb; sister, Carolyn Rauch; brother, Gary Crumb (Sue); six grandsons, Jeff and Doug Wolfe, and Sean, Kevin, Ryan and Andrew Pellow; and numerous nieces and nephews.
