Dean Wendell Hite, 90 of Roanoke passed away at 4:25 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Park Place Senior Living Center in Fort Wayne. He was a 1940 graduate of Markle High School. He was a WWII Army veteran who served in the Pacific Theater from 1942 – 1945. He worked at Schacht Rubber Company (later Lydall) in Huntington for 41 years, retiring in 1983 as supervisor of maintenance. He was a member of the Agape Church of the Brethren in Fort Wayne. He was born on December 28, 1921 in Markle, a son of Perry and Merle (Hughes) Hite.
He was united in marriage to Sarah Jenness Houser on December 28, 1941 in Dunkirk, Indiana. She preceded him in death on July 21, 1996.
Survivors include three sons: Ronald and wife Mary Hite of Fort Wayne; Richard and wife Linda Hite of Fort Wayne; Joe and wife Judy Hite of Tucson, AZ; a daughter: Carol and husband Barry Leiter of Roanoke; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Ivan Hite, Carl Hite, Joe Hite, Lester Hite and two sisters: Evelyn Beghtel and Miriam Bardsley-Earhart.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Jeff Copp officiating.
Interment will be at the Markle Cemetery.
