Dean Shulman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 9, 2012.

In the rising of the sun and in its going down,
We remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter
We remember them.
In the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring,
We remember them.
In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer,
We remember them.
In the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn,
We remember them.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends,
We remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength,
We remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart,
We remember them.
When we have joys we yearn to share,
We remember them.
So long as we live, they too shall live,
For they are now a part of us,
As we remember them.

I just heard about Dean. I haven't had any contact with him for years, but we were good friends in high school and while he was at UVA. I'm shocked.

We are saddened today by the death of Dean Jeffrey Shulman, 50, one of the five founding directors of Safety And Health Foundation.

Dean was acting director for real estate gifts for NRA Foundation since June 2010 and a member of Virginia Hospital Center's Legacy Planning Committee.

From March 2003 to September 2009, he served Ciena Capital as director of commercial property finance.

Previous to that, he worked for the State Department in Washington DC as a program manager providing business analysis of proposed renovations and construction of embassies, consular offices and ambassadors' residences.

Born September 25, 1962, Dean was a graduate of Yorktown University in Arlington VA, he earned a B.A. in philosophy from University of Virginia in 1982 and an M.B.A. in finance from Columbia University in 1988. He was bilingual in English and Spanish.

Dean was an avid runner and especially enjoyed Susan B. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure.

He is survived by his mother, Sandra Still Shulman, an agent at World Travel Service in Chevy Chase MD, and his brothers John and Harry Shulman. His late father, Stephen N. Shulman, was a partner at O'Connor & Hannon, a Washington DC law firm. Dean was divorced from Risa Ann Levine, a New York real estate lawyer. Dean and his family all lived in McLean VA.

Dean brought a broad range of expertise to Safety And Health Foundation and helped us develop our identity and mission. We will miss him.
