Dr. Delores Danilowicz, age 78, Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at New York University School of Medicine and former Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory of Tisch Hospital died on November 22, 2012 due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was married for 52 years to Dr. Hugh Paul Gabriel, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the same medical school. She was the youngest of nine siblings of Joseph and Bertha Danilowicz, a coal miner and farmer. She went to New York University as an undergraduate on a New York State scholarship. Dr. Delores Danilowicz, age 78, Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at New York University School of Medicine and former Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory of Tisch Hospital died on November 22, 2012 due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was married for 52 years to Dr. Hugh Paul Gabriel, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the same medical school. She was the youngest of nine siblings of Joseph and Bertha Danilowicz, a coal miner and farmer. She went to New York University as an undergraduate on a New York State scholarship. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and entered NYU Medical School in 1956 as a scholarship student. After graduating in 1960, she trained in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Jacoby Hospital) then spent a year at John Hopkins with Helen Tausig and two years at the National Heart Institute with Dr. Jean Braunwald. She then joined the NYU School of Medicine in 1968 to do cardiac catheterizations of children and to assist Dr. Frank Spencer in the pre and post-operative care of children after open heart surgery. She was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Society, published extensively and became tenured as an associate and full professor over the years. She was elected teacher of the year by the medical students and took retirement in 2004 at age 70. She is survived by her brother Walter Danilowicz and her husband Dr. Gabriel. There will be a memorial service on Friday, November 30th at 5pm at Andrett Funeral Home, 353 Second Ave., NYC. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Danilowicz-Gabriel Scholarship Fund at the NYU School of Medicine. Checks should be made out to the NYU School of Medicine and Danilowicz-Gabriel scholarship written across the top of the check.
