Dearest Liz: Almost one year has passed. Now a first Christmas with family is coming. The seat at the head of the table may appear empty, but set the place anyway because, if we remember Dennis, he will find a way to creep into your heart and be there with you. Thinking of you and loving you always. Paul and Patricia Mitchell, St. Albert.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Dennis' untimely passing. I worked side by side with Dennis between 35 and 30 years ago and have so many fond memories. I could not have worked with another colleague with as much dedication, ethics, empathy and enthusiasm. We all loved to hear Dennis relate anecdotes about his work or family or his many interests as he had a great perspective on issues and his delivery was compelling. He was liked by everyone who came in contact with him, and we were fortunate to have crossed paths in life with him. Dennis's immediate and extended family were always front and center in his life and my wife Myrna and I offer his family our sincere condolences.

I went to interview for a summer student position at Crime Detection Laboratory Winnipeg in the spring of 1982. Once the interview was completed I was sent to meet Dennis Doll, who gave me a tour and introduction to the laboratory. Dennis had a way of instantly bonding with people, and within minutes I was chatting away with him like we had known each other for years. His enthusiasm and passion for Forensic Science was immediately apparent and made a lasting and significant impression upon me. I was fortunate to have him as a mentor in my Hair and Fibre training and to spend many hours working on difficult cases together. He was an excellent Forensic Scientist, a conscientious worker and a caring, compassionate human being. My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

Dear Liz and family,
Dennis and I were in high school together; we were good friends. And in early August, 1964 we were on the same train together to the Oblate Novitiate in Manitoba; we continued to be friends through all of those years. I regret so very much that we did not keep up our friendship and contact through the years. He was always and even more so now a marvelous human being, giving our world so much more than he took from it.

My heart and prayer are with you!

We are lost without you our dear friend. My heart just breaks with the thought of the summer without you as our neighbor. I look down the road of our community of Woodlands and all of a sudden woodlands just doesn't seem to be the place it once was .
My husband and I look to you almost like a father figure. When something happy was in our lives we couldn't wait to tell you. When we needed guidance or direction, we couldn't wait to see you to see what your take on things would be.
Many people will go there entire lives without ever meeting a soul such as yours, and we were so fortunate to have knowen you for what little time we had with you.
Now instead of stepping outside our front door and having a conversation, I now look up to the heavens to speak to you.
We're not going to say goodbye, because you will always be here in our hearts.

It is our hope that God will wrap you in his loving arms until your pain subsides and is replaced with all your beautiful, heartwarming memories. Until then, know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
