Dennis Alexander McLean, 88, of Tigard, Oregon, passed away July 22nd, 2014 after a 20 year courageous battle with cancer.
Dennis was born in Portland, Oregon on February 6th, 1926 to Alexander and Helen (Needoba) McLean. He spent his childhood growing up in the Lake Grove area now referred to as Lake Oswego. Dennis attended Lake Grove Grade School. It was during this time that his sister Isabel had a best friend, Wauneta who many years later became Dennis' future wife.

Dennis joined the Navy in 1943 at only 17 years of age to serve his country. At this time Dennis had not yet graduated from High School, but the superintendent mailed him his diploma in 1944. After serving in the South Pacific during World War II, Dennis was discharged honorably in 1947.
Upon returning from war and knowing one another since grade school, Dennis and Wauneta married in 1947.

Dennis attended Lewis and Clark College and in just three years he earned a double major in Business and Psychology. After college, unsure of what he wanted to do, Dennis went to work at his father-in-law's car repair shop which had been in the family since 1946. It was at Ed's Garage that Dennis began lifelong career learning about the auto industry.

A few years into working at Ed's repair shop, Dennis was hired as a Service Representative for General Motors working in the Oldsmobile division, and was later promoted to a management position. Throughout his years as a manager, he oversaw branches in Portland, Los Angeles, Alaska, and Montana. He was very well-liked by many throughout his career and after 25 years with the company he retired.

After retirement, Dennis and Wauneta enjoyed several years of traveling together in their trailer. Along their journey they made many friends and fond memories. They also discovered their love for Mesa, Arizona. It was in Mesa that they bought a condominium and enjoyed 34 years of warm winter months.

Dennis enjoyed fishing in both fresh water and the open sea. He caught himself a ten foot sail fish in Baja, Mexico that he had mounted proudly displayed at his home. Dennis' one love was tennis and he was an active player, he played for many years. He enjoyed playing doubles with his wife as well as playing in senior singles matches. In addition, Dennis was a lifelong member of the Lake Oswego Masonic Lodge. He was a reading enthusiast, enjoying mostly historical literary pieces. His passion for reading continued throughout his illness, even until his passing.

Dennis will be remembered by many as a kind, loving, and patient man. His family will always remember his generous spirit and close friendships with those who will carry on his memory. But most of all, he will be remembered as a wonderful husband and father.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Wauneta; sister, Isabel Weitzel; son, David (Eileen) McLean; daughter, Dale McLean; grandchildren, Jason, Caitlin, Alexander, and Noah. He is also survived by a daughter in law Bonnie Berk.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Alexander and Helen (Needoba) McLean; and son, Dennis Edgar McLean.

A Celebration of Life to honor Dennis' memory will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014, from 2-4p.m. at Highland Club House, 12930 SW Peachvale Street, Tigard, Oregon 97224.
