Derrell Edward Burgess of Southlake passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2017. He was 91 years of age. Visitation: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2016 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Funeral: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Lonesome Dove Baptist Church in Southlake, Texas.
Derrell was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy, stationed in the South Pacific. He was a founding member of the VFW Post 10454 in Grapevine, TX.
After retiring from 25 years of service as an electrician and Head of Traffic for the City of Arlington. He continued to serve his community working in his field helping anyone in need.
Derrell was preceded in death by wife of 53 years Martha Jo Burgess, parents Glen and Edna Burgess of Southlake, brothers Elwyn, Orville, Delbert Burgess and sister Mildred McCord, son Robert Stapleton and grandson Jason Patterson.
Survived by brothers Junior Burgess and wife Alice of Southlake, Leon Burgess of East Texas. Children Janna Robinson and husband Bill, Eddie Sanders and wife Brenda, James Stapleton, Sr., Mary Jo Wood and husband Ben, Shirley Foster, Ronnie Stapleton, Tim Burgess, Robbie Burgess and wife Jennifer, Karyn Smalley and husband Jake, Becky and Beth Anderson, beloved companion and sidekick Trigger, 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, numerous extended family and friends.
