In the early morning Friday, September 20, 2013, a man who loved God, and devoted his life o his Family and Friends walked into the arms of his Heavenly Father. Dewey Everett Whitlow, Sr. was born in Henry County to John Franklin and Ella Jane Smith Whitlow on March 31, 1935. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Lowery, and brothers, Edward, Kenneth, Bobby and David Whitlow. Dewey spent his entire life in the vicinity of where he was raised. His life was devoted to his family, whom he loved so dearly. Cooking was a great joy of his and he so enjoyed the days when his friends and family were together for his famous cook-outs; he liked nothing better than to have them close to him. Dewey owned and operated Dewey's Body Shop in Villa Heights before retiring. Over the years he piddled with various projects around the home; whether it was creating something new or repairing something old. He attended Hill Memorial Baptist Church. Dewey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane Whitlow of the home, daughters, Patricia W. Ashworth and husband Michael of Bedford, Deborah W. Burge and husband Jerry of Bassett, and Judy Whitlow Smith of Bassett, his son, Dewey E. Whitlow, Jr. and his wife Michele of Rocky Mount, grandchildren, Christopher Ashworth, Lisa Ashworth Seward, Susan W. "Wetrock" Ashworth, Robert "Robbie" D. Whitlow, Benjamin Scott Smith, Jessica L. Smith, Haley M. Whitlow and Heather J. Whitlow, great-grandchildren, Zane C. Whitlow, Aubrey G. Whitlow, Andrew J. Seward and Abigail M. Seward, brothers Leonard F. Whitlow of Bassett and Curtis S. Whitlow of Axton, and numerous nieces and nephews. Over the years he was blessed to also have so many close friends in his life, among those are, Walter Bousman, Henry Hensley, Harry W. "Tim" Ferguson, Randolph Chitwood, Eugene Chitwood, David Witt, R. Wayne Cozart and Mel Cokerham.
