Digna TimoteaVillanueva has responded to the Lords' call and has departed to her new mission in heaven on January 19th, 2013 at 10:19PM. Digna was the second child of the late Santos Gomez and the late Maria del Carmen Gomez and was born on May 20th, 1941. She married Francisco Villanueva on September, 14th, 1961 and had four beloved children with him: Xiomara Schroeder, Ingrid Villanueva, Manuel Villanueva and Issa Villanueva. She also loved her in-laws Edenia Villanueva, Brant Schroeder, Robert Jarrell and Jason Jee as her own children. She married Francisco Villanueva on September, 14th, 1961 and had four beloved children with him: Xiomara Schroeder, Ingrid Villanueva, Manuel Villanueva and Issa Villanueva. She also loved her in-laws Edenia Villanueva, Brant Schroeder, Robert Jarrell and Jason Jee as her own children. She'll be deeply missed by her 7 grandchildren: Adonis Jarrell, Samantha Villanueva, Ariel Schroeder, Ambyr-Shae Jarrell, Frances Villanueva, Austin Schroeder and Alexis Schroeder and her great grandchild Jaelyn Jarrell. Digna was also adored by her 3 brothers: Julio Gomez, Alberto Gomez and Roberto Gomez, 4 sisters: Carmen Acosta, Otilia Castro, Sandra Key and Lelis Graves, 12 nieces, 10 nephews, brothers and sisters from the Latter Day Saints church and many close friends. Digna was deeply involved in social activities at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints better known as the Mormon Church. La Hermana Villanueva loved organizing international nights with foods, costumes, dances and music from different Latin countries. She was very proud of her heritage but was also proud to be an American. She became a Mormon in her native town of Puerto Cortes on Feb. 14, 1982 and was an active member ever since. She also performed various teaching positions within the church. One of her biggest achievements was to convert her husband Paco and to seal their marriage for eternity at the Atlanta temple.Digna enjoyed traveling to places like Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Chile, Guadalajara, Merida, Puerto Cortes, Tela, San Lucas in Baja California, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras, Antigua Guatemala, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Cozumel, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Grand Cayman, Chetumal, Mexico City, The Niagara Falls, Waltz Disney World, Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, New York City, Houston, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, The Grand Canyon, Las islas de la bahia, Washington D.C., Nauvoo and of course Louisiana. Digna was the co-founder of Carmen And Santos Salon in 1990. She found a new career as a beautician and salon owner along with her daughter in law Edenia. Digna closed her shop after hurricane Katrina devastated the New Orleans area.
Among other things, Digna enjoyed dancing, taking pictures, learning, hosting, singing, MCing, planting, cooking, dressing up, make up, concerts, folklore, shopping, baby sitting grand children, getting pedicures, cutting hair, reading, talking, making new friends, preaching the gospel, foot massages, music, mardi gras, foods, attending church and her Sunday family meeting at Nuni's. In all, Digna lived her life like Jesus Christ showed her, without prejudice and love for all. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd. Metairie Wednesday January 23, 2013 at 01:00 pm. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening at Leitz-Eagan from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Wednesday at 12:00 pm until time of service. Interment in Garden of Memories Cemetery
