Dee Cordova
March 8, 1940 - September 11, 2017
Dolores "Dee" Cordova (Romero) was born in Trinidad, Colorado on March 8, 1940 to Julian and Barbara Romero. The youngest of 4 girls, Dee was a little bit of a tomboy, loved her family and friends and showed an early interest in all things artistic. Even as a young girl, the local radio station profiled Dee by having her read a poem on the air "Babes in the Woods" which the Station Director admitted had brought him to tears. Dee finished her primary education in Trinidad and moved to Denver to start a career at Mountain Bell where she was an operator. Dee met Jake at a dance and his cousin and brother relayed that he said she was the prettiest girl in the place. Dee married Jake on December 30, 1961 and celebrated 56 years as a couple. Dee got her Cosmetology license and was a practicing beautician for several years working both at home and at Dee's Beauty Salon in Lakewood. Once the kids were in middle school, Dee had a career change and became a Medical Assistant at Gates Medical Center where she worked until she retired. Dee and Jake had 3 children, Donnie, Brian and Lori, and devoted all of their prime time to them. Hard working and unselfish, they put family first always. Dee loved the holidays, making Christmas candies, putting out her favorite ornaments and displays, decorating Easter Eggs, making Easter baskets, hand making/sewing Halloween costumes, and doing big BBQ for Labor Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July. Dee never forgot a birthday or anniversary and sometimes it was amazing that she kept it all going. The commitment to the family traditions set the foundation for what we all hold dear still today in our own homes. Dee was artistic; painting, sketching, crafts and gardening were all favorites. The house was always full of life both human and animal, it was just the place everyone wanted to be and where everyone felt welcome and loved. With all of her physical and health challenges the last few years, she never complained, kept her days filled with activity, and was driven to make sure that everyone she loved was working toward personal happiness, because she said that is what would make her happy.
Dee is preceded in death by her parents Julian & Barbara Romero and daughter Lori Lynn Cordova. Dee is survived by her husband Jake Cordova (Denver), Son Brian Cordova (Long Beach), Son Don Cordova, Daughter-in-law Dymphna Cordova, Grand Daughter Chase Cordova (San Francisco), Grand Daughter Brittany (Cordova) Winkelman, Ryan Winkelman (Husband) and Great-Grand Sons Dylan and Jake Winkelman (Seattle), and Grand Daughters Jade Cordova-Garcia (Atlanta) and Jourdan Cordova- Garcia (Denver).
