Dear Aaron Family, our thoughts are with you. Things will never be the same for you, but I know with time your sadness will be replaced with wonderful memories and that confident assurance that Don is no longer in pain. I want to share two memories: Don coached out son Justin in rec football. One evening he called....not to complain, but to compliment us on Justin's behavior and sportsmanship...taking the time to encourage....what parent doesn't appreciate that? I also remember his kindness and "one of the crowd" attitude as he accompanied a Zoom group to New York. Very supportive of you, Krista, as you led the Southern middle schoolers on our well orchestrated New York adventure. So sorry for your loss, Greg and Anne Lee

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Krista and family, I want to express my sympathy to you all for the loss of your loved one. Don was always kind to me and my family. I enjoyed talking to him because he always had good words of wisdom, and he shared some interesting stories with me and always had good advise.
Don called me the day of D'Waynes funeral and shared a story with me. He told me he and Krista were out of town but that he was sending Mary Helen to pay his respects for him. He shared this story with me a story about D'Wayne. He said D'Wayne went all over Sylvania trying to find out how to get in tough with him when he was in Alabama having back surgery. He said D'Wayne finally found someone who knew where he was and a phone number to the Hospital. He said D'Wayne called him and checked on him several times and offered to do ANYTHING HE COULD to help him. He said D'Wayne checked on him when he returned home from the hospital and offered to help him out. He told me that one phone call from my son meant more to him than any call he got because D'Wayne was such a young boy who took the time out to care enough to check on an "OLD MAN" (Don's Quote).
I thought a lot of Don. I always told him that He and Krista were my role models as parents and family. He would always laugh and thank me. I also enjoyed coaching softball with him when I coached Mary Helen. He was always so helpful and kind. Sometimes he didn't understand my plays but he would just look at me and not say a work. We ALWAYS WON our games too. We won District one year and we stayed in Gleenville on night until after 12 pm playing the last game and what a celebration we had with those girls. He loved his family so much and was very proud of you all.
I am here for you if you need ANYTHING. My thoughts and Prayers are with you all. I totally understand your pain. Please call me if you need anything. Love you all.

Krista, Mary Helen, Emily, Lil Don, and Charlie, I am very sorry for the loss Mr. Don. I had always told Don that he and Krista were my role models as parents/family. He was a very nice man. My son, D'Wayne, thought so much of him as well. He told me after D'Wayne's death how much it meant to him that when he was in Alabama having back surgery, D'Wayne went all over Sylvania trying to find out how to get in touch with Don in the hospital. He said D'Wayne called him in Alabama and checked on him and after he returned home. Don told me that one phone call meant the world to him because D'Wayne was such a young boy that took the time out to see about an old man. (Don's words). I always enjoyed talking to Don. He always had good advise and good stories to tell. I enjoyed coaching softball with him several years when I coach Mary Helen. He was always helpful. He will truly be missed. Krista, Renee and I can do little that's meaningful other than offer our prayers and love to you, the children, and grands. So please be certain in your heart that those prayers for understanding and comfort are being offered up. We all have those odd, often funny little remembrances of each other. Of all the encounters I had with Don over the last 50 or so years, I remember most that he took me to take my drivers license test 42 years ago. Daddy had to make an early fuel run that day and Don offered to take me because he knew I'd be disappointed to wait even one extra hour! Don was always kind to me and my family. Renee and I are grateful and blessed to have known him.
