Funeral services will be at 3p.m., Sunday, September 1st, at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mr. Don Aldrich Cain, 71, of Gadsden who passed away Thursday, August 29th, 2013. The Rev. Mat Alexander will officiate along with words spoken by Dr. Fred A. Malone Ph.D. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Mr. Cain was born February 21, 1942, the son of Roy Earl and Lois Dunklee Cain in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was a graduate of Southwest High School, Mankato State University, and the University of Minnesota. He was a Vietnam era veteran (1964-1966), a member of First Baptist Church as well as various professional and civic organizations. Mr. Cain was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company beginning in January 1967 with the Goodyear Squardon; working in the technical services division in various positions until retirement in 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Malone Cain; chosen children, Joe King (Anita) Chavers and Amy (Ricky) Smallridge; chosen dearest friend, Carolyn Chavers; chosen grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Chavers and Abby Cain Smallridge; sisters, Mrs. Diane Noble and Mrs. Sharon Nelson; brother-in-law, Dr. Fred (Deborah) Malone; close friend and cousin, David (Faye) Hindsman; nieces and nephews, Anne (John) Nolan, Sara (Greg) Hjort, Joanna (Todd) Jones, Joshua (Audra) Malone, and Jonathan (Jamie) Malone; and godchildren, Lance (Kristen) Lockridge and Matthew (Tiffany) Lockridge.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Skipper, Paul Foslin, James Adams, Walter Duke, James Turnbach, Benny Miller, Robert Glaze, and Rodger Armbrester.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Higgins, Dewitt Johnson, Roscoe Johnson, Dick Russell, and Earl Gibson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude's Research Hospital Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept, 142, Memphis, Tennessee, 38748.
Special thanks extended to the physicians and nurses of UAB Bone Marrow Center, Dr. Elquis Castillo, and Dr. John Wilborn.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
