Don William Duncan, 78, of Midland, Georgia passed away on April 7, 2014. He was born in Troy, Ohio on August 18, 1935.

Don graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Architecture in 1957 and attended Ohio State University for two years where he studied Civil Engineering. Don served in the United States Army from January 1960 until March 1962 at Fort Benning. After his discharge from the Army, he made Columbus his home and pursued his career in Architecture.

Don's first friend in Columbus, Sam Rawls introduced him to the Springer Opera House where he spent many hours designing and building sets. He was instrumental in creating the Children's Little Theatre.

During his early years in Architecture he was employed by: Biggers, Scarbrough, Neal, Brookbank, and Shields; Pound and Detwiler; and Flournoy Construction Co. Don and James P. Lovelace formed their company Duncan and Lovelace in 1985, where Don continued working until his health forced him to retire a few weeks ago.

Don was a licensed architect in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, and Tennessee. He was a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB). He was also on the board of the West Georgia Inspection Association (WGIS). He was a member of the Midland United Methodist Church.

Don's passions were Architecture and College Football; he was an Ohio State and Auburn fan until the end.

He was preceded in death by his father Richard Lee Duncan and his mother Alice Ruth Yount Duncan, his sister Jodi Duncan Hughes, and father-in-law Winston E. Batten. Don is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Dianne Batten Duncan, his son Major Richard Winston Duncan and Danielle, his brother Harry Edward Duncan (Sondra), his two granddaughters Samantha Lin and Victoria Anne Duncan, his brother-in-law Wendell Batten (Dale), sister-in-law Faye Paulk (Ashley) and mother-in-law Vennie Batten, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to invite friends to join them for a visitation at Striffler Hamby Mortuary on Thursday April 10, 2014 at 5:00-7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday April 11, 2014 at 4:00 PM in Edgewood Hall at Striffler Hamby Mortuary with Pastor Stephen Brinkman officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to several charities: the John B Amos Cancer Center, PO Box 790, Columbus GA 31901, Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31909 or Midland United Methodist Church, 9100 Warm Springs Rd.
