In February 1951 he went to war in Korea, and was captured in May. He was a POW for 23 months. In September, 1953, he returned from the war and moved back to Oklahoma; where he met the love of his life, Daisy Battenfield. They met on Halloween night and were married on November 16. They had 57 wonderful, loving years together.

Donald and Daisy moved to San Francisco shortly after marrying and stayed until 1957, when they moved to Oregon. Donald went to work at Bonneville Power and retired from there in December, 1987.

Together they had five wonderful children. Two daughters, Donna Drennan of Clatskanie, Oregon, Suzanne McEvwee of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and three sons, Keith of Muskogee, Douglas, and Donald Jr., both of Olympia, Washington. They also have 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He also deeply loved his two Dachshunds, Felix and Oscar. Donald was loved by many and he will be missed.
