Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 1, 2016.

Donald Gene Coffey, 73 of Liberty, died Friday, September 30, 2016 at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash after recently being diagnosed with cancer.

Don was born May 26, 1943, the son of Robert Granville and Gladys Katherine Hammer Coffey. Don graduated from Union High School in 1961 and was a ten year 4H member. Don was married at the College Corner United Methodist Church on July 7, 1962, to the former Arlene Smalley. He was employed at Dresser Roots as a machine repairman and retired after over forty years of service. Don was a skilled carpenter who worked on numerous architectural projects, including building his own home. In his leisure time, Don loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, attending tractor pulls and watching sports. He also enjoyed decorating for Christmas and bird watching with his wife. Don was a selfless man who always offered a helping hand, especially to his children.

Don is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Arlene Smalley Coffey; his children and their spouses: Chris G. Coffey and Karen of Liberty; Natalie Brock and Tony of Connersville; Clarissa Caudill and Brian of Liberty; Shane R. Coffey and Amanda of Richmond; his grandchildren: Candace Baker, who Don raised as his own daughter; Allison, Maisy and Kaden Steele; Adrienne and Landon Caudill; his great-grandchildren: Baylee and Hunter Baker; his brother: Albert Coffey of Bath; several nieces and nephews;
his schnauzers: Zoey and Peaches.

Don is preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Keith Coffey and infant sister: Helen Jeanie Coffey.
