Donald Charles Giumarro, 76, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Grand Strand Medical Center. He was a resident of Calabash, and formerly of New Hartford, Conn. He was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Bronx, N.Y., to Joseph Anthony Giumarro and Anna Drago Giumarro Russo. His stepfather was Lawrence Russo. His siblings are Marie Russo and husband Philip; Patricia Thayer and husband, Thomas; Janet Platt and husband, Roy; Robert Giumarro and wife, Ruth. He was preceded in death by his former wife of 33 years, Harriet E. Stansfield. Donald was in the National Guard. Donald Charles Giumarro, 76, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Grand Strand Medical Center. He was a resident of Calabash, and formerly of New Hartford, Conn. He was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Bronx, N.Y., to Joseph Anthony Giumarro and Anna Drago Giumarro Russo.

His stepfather was Lawrence Russo. His siblings are Marie Russo and husband Philip; Patricia Thayer and husband, Thomas; Janet Platt and husband, Roy; Robert Giumarro and wife, Ruth. He was preceded in death by his former wife of 33 years, Harriet E. Stansfield. Donald was in the National Guard.

He was a dairy farmer, storeowner, and a general contractor for over 50 years, but his real passion was painting folk and wood artistry, for which he recently won an award. Survived by his five children, Renée S. Giumarro of Connecticut, Joseph A. Giumarro and wife, Darleen, of Alabama, Donald C. Giumarro Jr. and wife, Susan, of Connecticut, Andrea S. Giumarro of North Carolina and Gena L. Giumarro of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, Cortney Spillane and husband, Adam, Morgann Langevin, Levi Langevin and wife, Claryssa, Cassandra and Austin Phillips, Joseph Giumarro III, Alexandra Barnhart, Christian Barnhart and Elijah Barnhart; eight great-grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew, Allbany, Ethan, Carter, Hayden, Rowan, Joshua and one on the way.

His Grandma and Grandpa Drago were very influential people in his life, as well as Uncle Sammy Drago, and close cousins Frank Giumarra and Connie Witt, as well as many aunts, uncles, and other cousins. Donald also leaves behind "his Sweetheart," Cynthia Valeo, with whom he shared 15 years of love and companionship.

Services will be Friday, March 21, with calling hours 8:30-10 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Conn.; Catholic Mass 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, 115 Main St., Danbury. Burial will be immediately following at St. Peter's Cemetery.
