Donald L. Hanson, age 78, of Fall River, died Thursday, June 27, 2013 in Charlton Memorial Hospital unexpectedly. He was the husband of Dorothy E. (Lewis) Hanson to whom he has been married for the past 53 years.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late George and Martha (Rothwell) Hanson, he has been a lifelong resident of the city and attended Bristol County Agricultural High School.
A United States Air Force veteran, he served during the Korean War. Mr. Hanson worked as a campus policeman at Corrigan Mental Health for over 20 years, retiring in 1998. Prior to that, he worked as a Supervisor at United Merchants in Fall River and Cumberland Farms Corporation.
An avid Red Sox fan, he loved his Labrador "Brady," enjoyed fishing and most of all spending time on Cape Cod with his wife.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter; Patricia Faria of Fall River, one son; Donald G. Hanson and his wife Melanie of Tiverton, RI, one sister; Mildred William and her husband William of Fall River, five grandchildren; Quinn, Evan, and Elona Hanson, Briana Ferreira, and Julia Faria, one great-grandson; Quill Hanson, and many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Vernon, George, and Charles Hanson, Marjorie Mroz, and Janice Lewis and father-in-law of the late John Faria.
His Funeral will be held Monday, July 1, 2013 at 10:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in St. Joseph's Church, 1335 North Main St., Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00PM. Flowers welcome or contributions in his honor may be made to Forever Paws, 300 Lynwood St., Fall River, MA 02721. Private burial will be held in Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne.
