Donald James Hosie
Feb. 17, 1930 - March 23, 2014
Donald J. Hosie of East Aurora, NY died peacefully March 23, 2014 surrounded by his family, after battling cancer. Donald was born in East Aurora, NY to John and Margaret Hosie. He was a graduate of East Aurora High School. He went to college for his Bachelors at Michigan State University after which he joined the United States Air Force and became an F-84 and F-86 Saber Jet Pilot for the Strategic Air Command.
After his tour of duty, Captain Hosie was employed as an assistant manager at Stouffer Corporation, where he met his future bride, Beulah M Baldwin. They married in 1958 while Don attended Bowling Green State University for his MBA. This eventually let to his long career as Director of Food and Vending for the State University of New York at Buffalo. Don was uniquely suited for this work as he was conscientious, fair-minded, creative, dedicated and an excellent problem solver.
Don earned his Eagle Scout, raised an Eagle Scout and pinned Eagle on two of his grandsons. He was a committee member for Troop 513 in East Aurora and participated in many camping and canoeing events.
In retirement, Don finally had the time to pursue his love of golf and craftsmanship, while remaining deeply involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, to whom he provided much love, support, and wisdom.
Don is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Beulah Hosie; his three children, Vicky Leahy (Tom), Doug Hosie (Beverly), and Donna Kennedy (Robert); and his much loved fourteen grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin brother, David Hosie, older brother, William Hosie (Sylvia) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Marian Mosser.
