Dear Liz,
George and I just returned from a trip to New York City, and
saw the notice of your dear husband's passing while reading past newspapers. That is by way of saying that, if we had been here on the 16th, we would have been there with you at Don's memorial service. It was always clear to us, who only knew Don through you, that he was a fine man and much loved by you.
We send our condolences to you, your children and grandchildren.
Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers, George and Jane

Don was a wonderful Tigard Library volunteer for 11.5 years, logging over 400 hours (probably more..those were the ones he recorded). From 1990 to 2001, he helped repair countless cassettes and vhs tapes, even creating his own splicing device.
As the volunteer coordinator, I feel so fortunate that I got to know him in 2000 and 2001, before he "retired" from his volunteer work.
Don was a no-nonsense, get it done kind of guy. The library benefitted immensely from his generousity. My heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends during this time of loss.

Don was the leading light as well as founder of the West Side Stamp Club, which for many years has met on the first Monday of the month at the Tigard Senior Center. We've missed him already as his failing health kept him from participating for the last year or more. Don is very affectionately remembered by many long-time members; the Club especially flourished under his very effective leadership. The great thing is, it is still going pretty strong and keeps getting new members, so though not quite the same as in the good old days with Don, the Club he founded lives on as a part of his legacy. I'm grateful for his efforts to launch and nourish this enjoyable monthly get-together around our common love for stamps.
