Donald J. O'Neill, 80, loving husband and father, passed away June 12, 2014 after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Don graduated from Ysleta High School in 1951 before joining the Air Force. He served with the 94th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Selfridge Air Force Base in Michigan. There he met Nancy Farnham and the two later married in Wheeling, West Virginia on July 9, 1956. After moving to El Paso, Texas in 1959, Don became a teller with State National Bank. He retired from banking 43 years later as a Senior Vice President. One of Don's passions was his work as an NCAA Football Official with the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) for 23 years. His crew earned 22 annual college bowl games. He especially enjoyed working the Sun Bowl. Nancy frequently accompanied Don to the games, giving them the opportunity to visit Hawaii 22 times. A longtime member of the UTEP Miner Athletic Club, Don was an ardent Miner fan. He served as the President of the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame and was truly honored when inducted into the El Paso Hall of Fame in 1990 as a WAC Official. After raising their family, Don and Nancy loved to travel, especially by cruise ship. Their many trips together included Alaska, the Northeast Coastline, Ireland, and Europe. Donald is survived by his wife, Nancy, five of his six children, Terry O'Neill, Sally Nowland, Kathy Little, Cheryl Schure, and Christine Robertson, as well as eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Don's youngest son, Kevin O'Neill, passed away in 2010. Memorial visitation will be Wednesday, June 25, from 6 to 9 pm at Martin Funeral Home Central. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 9:45 am at St. Raphael Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home, 9650 Kenworthy Street, El Paso, Texas, 79924, attention to Susan Culp.
