Donald H. Standiford, 93, of Houston passed on January 20, 2014 He was born in New York City to Harry R. and Sara Katherine Hynes Standiford. He was married for 57 years to his beloved wife Margot who passed in March of 2012. Donald enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and served 7 years active duty and attained the rank of Battalion Master Sergeant. He fought in World War II throughout the European campaign and at the Battle of the Bulge. Donald was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations against the enemy on 9/01/1944 and he was also awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Donald H. Standiford, 93, of Houston passed on January 20, 2014

He was born in New York City to Harry R. and Sara Katherine Hynes Standiford. He was married for 57 years to his beloved wife Margot who passed in March of 2012.

Donald enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and served 7 years active duty and attained the rank of Battalion Master Sergeant. He fought in World War II throughout the European campaign and at the Battle of the Bulge. Donald was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations against the enemy on 9/01/1944 and he was also awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Donald returned to civilian life and earned a B.A. in Economics at Cornell University in 1947. When his Army unit was recalled, he served in Germany where he met his future wife Margot to whom he was married on November 11, 1955. Donald continued to serve in the US Army reserves for 26 years and attained the rank of Lt. Colonel.

In civilian life, Donald worked for Esso in New York City for 15 years. Donald and Margo later owned and operated a children's apparel store in Stanford, Ct. for 11 years. Forty years ago the couple moved to Houston. Donald worked for Foley's for 22 years and retired at the age of 75.

In his retired years Donald was an avid follower of politics and contributed to many charitable organizations. Donald's favorite activities included monthly luncheons with the Retired Military Officers Association and weekly target shooting with his Marine buddy, Roger Hedman.

Visitation will be held at Forest Park West Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, 77077 on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Funeral service will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church Chapel, 10221 Ella Lee at Sam Houston Tollway on Wednesday, February 5 at 2:00 pm. Donald will be buried with military honors in Waterbury, CT at Calvary Cemetery in a family plot where his Mother, Father and wife are buried.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Lt. Colonel Donald H. Staniford, USAR, Retired to the American Air Museum in Britain, P.O.Box 97055, Washington, D.C. 20090-7055.
