Obituary

Donald L. "Don" Vaughan, Sr., 75, of Kansas City, KS, passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at K U Medical Center. Memorial Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 19th at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Friends may call after 1 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society. Don was born March 24, 1935 in Kansas City, KS to Ralph A. and Dorothy I. (Moore) Vaughan. He served as an Aviation Machinist for the U. S. Navy for 30 years, including service in the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. Don earned many commendations during his career in the Navy, including...
Donald L. "Don" Vaughan, Sr., 75, of Kansas City, KS, passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at K U Medical Center. Memorial Services will be 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society. Don was born March 24, 1935 in Kansas City, KS to Ralph A. and Dorothy I. (Moore) Vaughan. He served as an Aviation Machinist for the U. S. Navy for 30 years, including service in the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. Don earned many commendations during his career in the Navy, including The National Defense Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, and the Navy Unit Commendation, before his retirement in 1973. After his service in the Navy, Don was a Truck Driver and Dispatcher for Deffenbaugh Disposal Service, a Building Maintenance Specialist for Brookstone Apartments, a Mechanic for Jim Clark Auto in Lawrence, KS, and he most recently worked for Wright Liquor Store in Kansas City, KS. He was a member of American Legion Post #199 and a past VFW member. Don enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, fishing, and spending time at Argosy Casino. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Velma Ruth Vaughan, and 1 son, Donald Vaughan, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Linda Vaughan of the home; 1 son, Michael Vaughan of Gardner, KS; 1 daughter, Colleen Pellett of Ft. Scott, KS; 5 brothers, Ralph Vaughan of Chula Vista, CA, Clifford Vaughan of Kincaid, KS, John Vaughan of Oak Grove, MO, David Vaughan of Hays, KS, and John J. Vaughan of Castle Rock, CO; and 1 sister, Martha Wilmouth of Shawnee, KS. Also left behind to cherish his memory are 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 step-children, Melinda Fletcher, Patrick Fletcher, and Jason Fletcher; 3 step-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Arrangements under the direction of Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, Kansas City, KS.
