Mrs. Donia Craig Dickerson, age 81, died peacefully February 28, 2014 with her family by her side after a brief illness. She was born on April 7, 1932. Mrs. Dickerson was the widow of William Buford Dickerson II. She was the daughter of the late Francis Jackson Craig and the late Elizabeth Craig Lancaster. Her sister was the late Celeste Craig Abernathy. She is survived by her children William Buford Dickerson III, Francis Craig Nash, and Charlotte Crandall Hall, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Donia Craig Dickerson, age 81, died peacefully February 28, 2014 with her family by her side after a brief illness. She was born on April 7, 1932. Mrs. Dickerson was the widow of William Buford Dickerson II. She was the daughter of the late Francis Jackson Craig and the late Elizabeth Craig Lancaster. Her sister was the late Celeste Craig Abernathy. She is survived by her children William Buford Dickerson III, Francis Craig Nash, and Charlotte Crandall Hall, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece and two nephews.

She attended Parmer School, Ward-Belmont Preparatory School, Mary Baldwin College in Stanton, Virginia, and was graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1954 where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Mrs. Dickerson was a member of the Junior League of Nashville, Incorporated, the Centennial Club, and was a former member of Belle Meade Country Club. She held teaching positions at Glendale, Percy Priest, Palmer, and Julian Green elementary schools.

Mrs. Dickerson has been an art dealer and lecturer in art history since 1960. She was the art consultant for the Bell South Collection and for the Washington Office of Senator Bill Frist. She taught Art History at Vanderbilt University in the Adult Learning Program. She was also the dealer for Chesley LLC, the publishers of Frederick Hart Sculpture and Chase Art, publishers of The Bronzes of Dr. Seuss.

Mrs. Dickerson's life long focus had been to introduce art and music appreciation to children. She was responsible for many pilot programs in art appreciation in Metro Schools and for many years she taught Art History at Julia Green Elementary School as a volunteer. For years, Mrs. Dickerson taught a weekly art history class and frequently took small groups to the great art museums of this country and in Europe. She was a repeat lecturer on the Queen Elizabeth II and the Greenbrier Resort.

The visitation will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church Tuesday March 4, 2014 at 10 am followed by an 11:30 a.m. service. Following the service there will a private burial for family and close friends at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
For those wishing to make a memorial, the family suggests the Music Fund at Saint George's Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Road, Nashville, Tennessee 37205, or a charity of great interest to the donor.
The active pallbearers are John Roland Burch, Jr., Harold Edward Jackson III, James Gardner Smith, William Howard Cammack, Jr., James Ralph Stadler, Jr., John Beveridge Wallace, and Claude Royal McCullough.
