Dora Etta (Gumbrell) Abby, age 83 of West Salem, IL, , IL entered into Eternity Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab in Mt. Carmel, IL due to complications from cancer.
Dora Etta was born December 10, 1929, daughter of Nellie (Brothers) and Clyde Gumbrell of the West Village community of Albion, IL. She married Marlin W. Abby of Ellery, IL on September 28, 1947 at the West Village Christian Church.
She graduated from Albion Community High School and attended Lockyears Business College in Evansville, IN, worked in various offices including County Clerk and Circuit Clerk's offices in Albion. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping and quilting. She and her husband also enjoyed winters in south Texas for over 20 years.
She was active in church and community service and was a member of First Christian Church in West Salem.
Dora Etta is survived by her husband, Marlin, 1 daughter; Debbie and son-in-law David Ewing of Chapel Hill, NC, 1 grandson; Andy Ewing of Wilmington, NC and 4 nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Willard of Albion and Warren of Ohio.
A memorial service will be Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 2:00pm at the First Christian Church in West Salem, IL. Burial will be in the Graceland cemetery in Albion, IL. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until time of service at the church. Ingram Funeral Home of West Salem is entrusted with all arrangements.
Donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children in St. Louis, MO or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
