Dorin Banica died peacefully and surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Oregon Health & Science University. Viewing will be held at Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary, 6801 SW Sunset Hwy, Portland, OR 97225, on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 between the hours of 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at the same address on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM.

Dorin Banica was born in Urechesti, Vrancea, Romania on October 18, 1951, one of three siblings, a brother Alexandru and sister Lucieana who both still live in Romania along with Dorin’s parents Mihai and Ileana. After graduating from High School and Accounting School in 1971, Dorin worked as a bookkeeper at a Romanian accounting firm and was an Inspector in Accounting for 5 years. He was also the President of Marasesti Chamber of Commerce for 16 years. Dorin was a very driven man and in 1992 he opened and managed a successful restaurant in a historical tourist location on the outskirts of town up until he and his wife and kids moved to the United States in 1999. They made Portland Oregon their home and Dorin worked numerous jobs for long days and nights determined to be successful and achieve the “American Dream”. He and his wife Aurica owned and operated a family business out of their home and Dorin also worked a full-time job at nLight Corporation for the past 7 years. Dorin and Aurica were married 38 years and have two children, Magdalena Pisica and Octav Banica. Dorin was a wonderful man, a devoted son, loving husband, and an amazing father and grandfather to his four grandchildren, Andrei, Nicholas, Ari and Jude. He loved Romania, the country where he was born, and his knowledge of the history of Romania was apparent to anyone who spoke to him about it; its culture, its religion, and the vineyards his father tended there. His enthusiasm for discussion about topics that interested him was infectious, especially considering that English was not his native language. Dorin was also thankful for his life in this country, and he knew more about the history of the United States than many people living here do. Friends and family are invited to a celebration and memorial luncheon at Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary (address above) immediately following the service.
