Doris Standridge Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2017.

Doris Ellen Standridge, 83 of Florence, Texas, received her Heavenly wings on December 26, 2017. She was born in Lee County, Texas on January, 25, 1934 to Charlie A. and Clemmie C. (Ward) Smith. Doris was full of passion for her Lord and Savior, her family, and her friends. She adored her husband, William Standridge throughout their 59 years of marriage.

Doris always showed the heart of a servant as a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Florence where she served on many committees over the years. She especially loved singing in the choir, WOM and the Prayer Team. She loved playing cards or dominos with anyone that would sit down at the table with her, or just relaxing in the back yard in the evening with her family catching up on the events of the day. She could always be found cheering on her grandkids at all of their sporting events. She loved spending time at Lake Buchannan and did so many times throughout the years. She was also a lifelong member of TOPS Inc.

She is preceded in death by her husband William Ray Standridge, her son Hollis Eugene Standridge, her parents and 3 brothers, Vernon, C A and Hollis Smith.

She is survived by two sons, Ray Standridge and wife Cheryl and Kenneth Standridge and wife Karen; two daughters, Margaret Holbrook and husband Fred and Shirley Atkinson and husband James all of Florence, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Mary Standridge of Killeen, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 9 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6:00- 8:00 P.M. Friday, December 29, 2017 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown with a Reception in the Southwestern Room. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Florence, Texas. Interment will follow at Florence City Cemetery in Florence.

Pallbearers are her grandsons, Freddy Holbrook, Wes and Joseph Atkinson, Chris, William, Justin and Zachary Standridge, Doug Peterson and Duaine Barton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Florence or Alzheimer for the cure at Alz.org.

We would also like to thank the staff of Wesleyan Nursing Home and Wesleyan Hospice for their kindness and compassion shown to our mother during her time there.

Doris was a wonderful friend. I met her in TOPS and she was also in KOPS Honor Society. She was an inspiration to many people and her smile was so genuine to everyone she knew. She will be missed, but she is in Heaven looking down and singing Heavenly Praises to her family and friends.
Rest in Peace Doris,
In Christian Love,
Donna

My heart was saddened to hear of her passing but yet rejoicing knowing she is with our Lord and Savior. What a prayer warrior she was, as well as a friend and confidant. There will always be fond memories, especially those the four of us shared being together on the Prayer Team.

Blessings,
Bill and I extend our condolences to the family, how much she loved you.
