Doris Loretta Abernathy, age 94, died October 24, 2014 at her residence in Sikeston.
Born October 20, 1920, in Campbell Mo., to the late William and Perna Lee Pritchett Sheppard, she had been employed by the Sikeston Public Schools and was a member of a quilting club in Sikeston. She was a member of North Acres Baptist Church in Sikeston. On August 24, 1936, in Piggott Arkansas, she married Avery Abernathy, who died on April 23, 1992.
Survivors include: four daughters and one son-in-law, Angela and Rodney Bridger of Sikeston, Gean Schmidt of Sikeston, Alfreda Fugate of Sikeston, Marjorie Ferrenburg of Morley; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sandy Smith; one grandson, Aubrey Dale Bridger; one great grandson, William Randell Riley II; four brothers, Windel Sheppard, Fred Sheppard, Eddy Sheppard and Howard Sheppard.
Visitation will be held from 5p.m. until 8p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00a.m., Wednesday October 29, 2014 at Nunnelee Funeral chapel, with Rev. James Trotter officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
